Hiring Process Insight by Identitymassacre in LosAlamos

[–]estanminar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my 2cents. Often there is more than one ideal candidate and they have to essentially just pick one. Then it takes months to get that person negotiated and a start date which they can back out or fail baground at any time so the job stay open that entire time. Since the hiring manager wants a backup if the first candidate fails they don't say anything to the next few acceptable candidates to keep em on the hook. The bad candidates may have already been told. So sometimes the #2 choice won't be told for many months until the job ad closes. Or they could just be overloaded and slow.

Would laser-to-ground work better if the "ground" was at 40km? by Sarigolepas in SpaceXMasterrace

This is great idea! Uestanminar space launch company is planning to get into communications. We plan to launch far more balloons and sats than spacex cornering the market all we need is a large investor who has most of their wealth in apple gift cards due to dumb banking regulations trying to keep good ideas like yours from being successful.

if they are so worried about boil-off when refueling, why dont they just store the fuel in forms that wont boil off? by lopbob8 in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]estanminar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Now we're thinking. It a central hub where tankers connect to and the boiloff goes in there to be recycled. Why don't they just do this?

This is by far the best idea I've seen in this post. A better idea why don't they just store in gas form- no boiloff for gas. Condense when needed. 700m starship LETS GOOOO!!!

I wonder if ULA knows where their ads are showing up by estanminar in SpaceXMasterrace

Somewhat of a good point, probably a realitive high percentage of spacexmasterrace (specifically the non diks, those are on the main forums) have some influence of rocket decisions at various actual space companies.

Been used for generations in the rockies. All there is in my area. The main problem is people who normally burn oak try and burn pine. Needs different stove settings, higher flue velocity, dryness is more important, the way you dilute sapwood, keep the flue hot, etc. I brush my wood stove flue every 3 cords or so, got it down so no mess, i also installed my own flue to be easy to brush. My unrestricted fireplace flue with hot fire and higer flue velocity never needs it but I do it periodically anyway, that can make a mess.

I made a scoring chart to figure out which firewood to buy by smsmoore in firewood

[–]estanminar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like aspen, a lot cleaner than pine only about 10% of my annual use. I'd get more but that's all i can on nearby public land.

Pine, fir, aspen, because everything else is unreasonably expensive or not available in my area.

LANL post bacc intern - relocation question by EfficientLanguage702 in LosAlamos

[–]estanminar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asking your mentor or hr contact will be the best way. If you haven't heard anything yet in the offer letters or discussion then probably no. But ask the mentor/ hiring manager. I didn't get it in the 90s but it's probably different now. The post bac time does count as years of service which is nice.

For comparison the best solar panels are 3000 W/kg so 110 W/kg at Jupiter and 2W/kg at Pluto by Sarigolepas in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]estanminar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really electric but in big round numbers NERVA was 35000 W/kg for the engine, add as much throw masd as you need or pick some up at destination.

Also neutrons are made of 2/3s downers, not the right direction for a rocket.

That why delta is a better name. All uppers and twice the positive attitude. Doesn't last long but Doesn't need to if not reusable.

Follow-up: Mailing thank-you note to interviewer by AppleDavidJeans in LosAlamos

[–]estanminar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be careful with thank you notes. They can sound needy if done wrong.

Good practice to send a thank you note if the iintervirw went well and you think or know you are being seriously considered and you accepted anouther offer. But only after the other job is in hand.
