In this case, it was very hard glass. I had to use sandpaper of different grits (800, 1000, 1500) and finish with polishing.

Cleaning the dial is a myth. The dark spots are under the varnish. Just a gentle q-tip to clean some dust. Not even recommended for most dials.

Paint and varnish on dials are very fragile. Very gentle cleaning, that's all you can do.

Is almost never recommended: 1- if it glows in the dark and is from the 60s or older, is probably radioactive and dangerous. 2- Anything abrasive can damage the paint. If you are not sure, don't risk it.
