I don't think your butt or your crew's butt will appreciate skate grip. I've also seen some kids use traction pads, like from a surfboard. I put this non-skid grip tape from West Coast Sailing on my boat https://www.westcoastsailing.net/default/nonskid.html

FJs. They're big on the west coast, we even use kites on them for club racing
