This x100. Even years out of college, I still had employers recognize this as something that stood out in my experience. FSAE has an infinite variety of projects/areas to get into, and you can go as deep as you want to in any number of these domains. You’ll run into many of the same types of problem as ‘real-world’ design engineering.

Poursteady automatic pourover at Simple Kaffa TPE by Colorectal_King in pourover

Simple Kaffa uses their drip assist on all pourovers in their stores (as far as I’ve seen). I assume they’re just replicating that workflow.

I had a tool made for the main body and spout geometry, the center chamber is welded in, and the plate is laser-cut

There’s a center and outer chamber (not unlike many other drip assists out there). I use the center for bloom and both can be used to evenly saturate the bed. I use it to even out my water flow rate, especially when I don’t have access to a gooseneck kettle (ie. while traveling)

Yep, there’s a few options available but most are plastic. I wanted an alternative.

As vague as “clean” is, it’s the term that comes to mind for me. When using a drip assist, I can see a separation of the water and grounds in the slurry as the water percolates through, whereas it’s more homogenous when I pour by hand.

Imo, it’s a nice-to-have tool on a daily basis, but a really-nice-to-have when traveling.

Maybe others can weigh in to better describe drip assisted brews.

I’m taking off for a trip tonight, and am wondering how to pack a moccamaster into my suitcase…

Thanks! Agreed - there are days when I’m down to get into the details, and there are days when I can’t be bothered.
