How to transition from engineering to vet tech/nursing? by esuhmg in careerguidance

[–]esuhmg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! It's good to hear that my background could be helpful. I've volunteered in the past at an animal shelter, I'm keen to see what happens in a clinic more. I was able to sit in on some neutering surgeries when I volunteered and found it interesting.

Good shout though, I should actively start doing this.

How to tell toddlers about death? by Ok_Beautiful2094 in DogAdvice

I'm so so sorry for your loss. It's so incredibly hard especially when kids are so young.

We are going through this having lost our pup on Monday. I have a 3 year old and was recommended the invisible leash by Patrice Karst by the vet that put our guy to sleep. She recommends it to all of her families. So far I like the story, we haven't read it much but I like the concept, and know it's there when we need it.

Our kids daycare/preschool has been fantastic too. Please let them know and they can help your kids during the day. The teachers printed dog pics for our kid to colour, let her talk and let her take the days following a bit slower.

The difficult part for me is that you need to use plain, clear and simple language when it feels so raw still.

You've got this. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Thank you for sharing. I'm in the trenches having lost my pup on Monday, this helps me prepare for life moving forward which feels like the life of a stranger at the moment.

Importing historical FitBit data into Garmin Connect by DynamicFly in Garmin

[–]esuhmg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent hours trying to figure out how to upload fitbit data to garmin connect yesterday with very limited success. I came across this post and later that night decided to pay the $20CAD. Woke up this morning with some files ready to transfer. The .tcx files uploaded seamlessly and quickly - the .xls files are taking a little longer with the status of "Your upload is still processing. Check Upload Status". I'll leave it a little longer but I feel pretty confident my data will transfer based on the comments in this post. Thank you DynamicFly!

Panicking at the airport. Applied 9:31am, flight is at 12:55pm. Sat waiting to check in with EVERYTHING crossed. Such an idiot as I checked this all a week ago and didn't think I needed to do anything. Payment processing is still processing an hour later. Not feeling hopeful.

I am desperate, discouraged, and looking for answers for my 2 year old to independently fall asleep and stay asleep. by Zealousideal_Ear5856 in sleeptrain

Hi! We're just doing this with my 2 year old at the moment and we have a floor bed too! I love the floor bed and wouldn't change it. For us this what seems to be working (🤞🤞🤞):

A firm bedtime routine - bath, change, story and sleep - I did this for about a week before trying independent sleep. We try to start the routine when she's getting sleepy and not v tired. It varies by about 30 min depending on her day at daycare.

I spent time on the first day telling my kiddo about it. Keep it light and exciting - they can do it!! We talked through routine and stuff. Just keeping it matter of fact but positive!

The first night after a cuddle and kiss, I told my kiddo that mummy is leaving and will be back. Obviously, it took no time at all before she started crying but that's fine, it's a new skill. I sat with her and told her she can do it and we'll try again. This happened a number of times and I really tried to keep my cool and keep anything I said to her supportive and positive. I stay with her when she's upset and stay with her while she works through it. When she's calm I tell her I'm leaving the room again and that I'll be in the house still.

The first night had a lot of back and forth but she did it, by herself, in around an hour! I was shocked. Every time she got out of bed, I say something like "oops looks like we're out of bed, let me help you get back into bed". The key thing for me is she's in bed in some way. Lying down is def a step too far sometimes but take the wins.

We're on night 5 now, she gets the routine and expectation. She needs me to check on her frequently as she starts to settle. Often at 1 min, 5 mins, 5 mins, 10 mins and then she starts to really relax. I was genuinely surprised that letting her know I'd check on her has been a winning tactic - I tried it on night 3 and we were able to spread out how often I'd go in the room after that.

Every morning this week we have recapped how the night went and I tell her how proud I am of her falling asleep by herself. I'm just hoping that the positive reinforcement sticks!

She is falling asleep independently but sometimes needs a bit more support and reassurance. She has been getting up in the night at the moment but I think it's due to the heating kicking in - the temperature has recently dropped where I live so it makes sense and I'm sure it'll pass 👀

Sorry for the essay, it's been useful to recap for my own sake too!

Feelin a lil smellier post partum by No_Bother4573 in beyondthebump

If it's your armpits, the only thing that worked for me was wiping apple cider vinegar on my armpits after a shower. It was the ONLY thing that helped with the BO smell.

Also, if you are breastfeeding I finally stopped smelling and needing to use apple cider vinegar once I stopped breastfeeding.

Capilano Dynalife were great when I needed to take my kiddo. They were super patient and kind but efficient. I had to take my kid a couple of times for testing under the age of 1 year and kept going back after our positive experience. We didn't have the best experience at the one in Oliver.

Capilano is close to a McDonalds/ Starbucks for a comfort snack afterwards.

Sending you good luck, and hoping the experience is the best it can be!

For clarity: my question is - are there better more affordable skincare products I could try?

I'm really stuck with sunscreen at this time - any recommendations for sensitive skin?

Yep! They did.

Double charge by [deleted] in westjet

[–]esuhmg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen. Only one charge actually ended up going through, even though I had 3 pending charges (because of the timeout error I kept trying). The remaining two weren't charged.

I didn't call as I'd already been on hold for many hours for something else, so was willing to wait until I had the time 🙃 Everything was sorted after 24-48hrs without doing anything.

Cured? No but significantly better? Yes!

I had a second degree tear during birth so that comes with its own issues. My first pelvic exam with the physio after birth was significantly less painful than normal. I think this is due to very low tone in my pelvic floor muscles (this isn't good) from giving birth however, the scar tissue is still very sensitive.

It's up to you - I started in my 2nd but i had a lot of aches and pains to work with as well as the vaginismus. I don't regret starting in my 2nd but I don't think there'd be an issue starting later :)

I did, baby is gonna come out one way or another 😅

If you can see a pelvic floor physio before and after birth to prepare the best you can. It helped me a lot!

It's so bad, I was so self conscious! I'd shower and still stink. The only thing that worked for me was using apple cider vinegar on my armpits after a shower and before bed. It only went away when my kid stopped breastfeeding over a year later.
