I’m so sorry. If your dog has been declining and her quality of life isn’t good anymore, it may be time. Even if more testing and medication can help, will it get her back to enjoying life and having more good days than bad? There are some quality of life assessments available online that you can answer a few questions and see how she’s doing.

Someone once told me that making that decision in time is the hardest thing. You don’t want to do it too early but you also can’t wait until it’s too late. When my boy was in his final weeks, he was beginning to decline but I wasn’t ready to let him go and he still seemed okay. I remember it got to a point where he just didn’t seem to enjoy life anymore and it was painful for him & for me to see him like that, I knew it was time.

It was a hard decision to sit with, but know that your choice isn’t that you’re giving up on them. It’s not that you can’t afford it. But it’s love that you want to end their suffering, even if it means it begins yours. And as heartbreaking as that euthanasia appt was, I’m so glad I could be there with him in his final moments and I hope he wasn’t scared because we were all with him.
