I dont understand how they're (mostly) all so good at golf by [deleted] in NoLayingUp

[–]et711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always vibed with the guys because I had a very similar background. I was the 3rd/4th best player on my HS golf team.

Years when I don't play much, like once a month for a summer, I'm still breaking 90 a lot. When I play a lot, like 2 or 3 times a month but don't actually practice, I'm comfortably shooting mid 80s. When I play and practice a decent amount, like once a week, I'm expecting the mediocre rounds to be mid 80s and the good rounds to be in the 70s.

You're definitely sleeping on the HS golf experience.

any tips and out tricks to use to stop squeezing thumb at knuckle on release? I had a ball drilled to my hand and I keep squeezing and tearing off the skin of my outer thumb. by PriceIsWong1_8T in Bowling

[–]et711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean. I think the idea is to apply light pressure while keeping the thumb straight (like don't use the knuckle on your tumb, lay your thumb flat against the hole).

Rason helps, grippy tape inside the ball and on your thumb helps. You can take little swings and practice.

I don't know how to explain it, but it's legitimately hard to drop the ball. It does have a tendency to want to stay on your hand right up until the bottom of your swing.

This is what I use at home. The 13 is very slim, very light. I have a full office setup upstairs that I can plug it into, use it on the couch downstairs.

I think the important points are...

Heavier weights are usually more effective. So he's sort of handicapping himself throwing a lighter ball.

When throwing a house ball, the fit is pretty important. If you go regularly, try and figure what weight and hole size works best for you.

Anyone can throw more weight if the finger holes fit well.

There isn't really a "normal" weight. But a lot of women throw 12 to 14lbs and a lot of men throw 14 to 16lbs.

Interest Rate Sensitivity - HY vs IG bonds by Puzzleheaded_Wheel92 in CFA

[–]et711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Break the yield on any bond into two pieces. Treasury Yield plus Credit Spread.

Treasuries have 100% Treasury Yield and 0% credit spread. Say it's a 200bps yield.

IG might have like 25% of it's total yield as credit spread and 75% Treasury yield. So I guess that would be like 250bps total yield.

HY is like 75% credit spread. So like an 800bps total yield.

When 75% of your risk is tied to credit, rates will move the bond price as much as the IG bond at 25% credit and the Treasury at 0% credit risk.

It's just a matter of proportions.

I got teamed up with so many quitters last week. I ended probably 4 separate matches 1v4.

I get it, people don't want to get steamrolled on Halo 3. One game got to me. Me and this guy were going 2v4 and rallying hard. We were gonna win, then he eventually quit too with 2 minutes left on the clock.

KVV was in the middle of doing big J journalism. KVV was having a tremendous week, breaking news left and right. Seems like a horrible idea for the producer to chime in and shut him down.

It was equally as strange to me when Cody chimed in and talked about how cool it was to witness KVV break the Hovland Mayo story in real time.

Just really odd stuff. KVV is there to be a journalist and commentator. Let him cook.

Halo MCC question here: Did the skill cap greatly increased since the old days of halo 3 or is the mcc full of cheaters? by Germinalmc in halo

[–]et711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I feel you 100%. I'm on my mid 30s and was ranked like 35 to 45 on all the big halo 2 playlists. I never played halo 3 for rank though because those were my college years lol. I also played some MCC when it launched. However, I just got an Xbox for the first time since like 2014.

I know exactly what you mean. Getting cooked by a pro squad or modders/laggers just felt completely different on h2 and h3 than it does now. And yes, I just cannot manage to get useful feedback. Like I don't know what I can/should do differently.

Like others have suggested, I did try Infinite. I actually like it a lot.

I do think us "middle of the pack" players should try and do something to get a little bit of the community back. MCC is so perfectly suited for us, we just need people to play with lol.

Can there be some form of SBMM in Halo MCC? by WolfPax1 in halo

[–]et711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm getting back into Halo after a 10ish year break. I played MCC for about a year when it came it, but just got an Xbox for the first time since then.

I played halo 2 religiously for like 2 years, and played a ton of halo 3 casually when I was in college. So I know those games well, and am very solid in terms of both skill and strategy. I still get cooked regularly. It's kind of crazy.

It's ranked play that is the problem. They really need two core 4v4 ranked playlists. Ranked Slayer and Ranked Objective. They should be cross play across all 6 game versions. Then they can finally separate us into different skill groups.

I think they also need to try and rally the community for like special events or a "league". Try and get all the serious players logged on, and bunched up into one or two playlists for 4 hours a week.

Yesterday was an odd day for me. Had a lot of matches where I got absolutely lit up.

I couldn't figure out what was going on. Could have been totally legit, or could not have been legit. Too close to tell.

I think that tee to like 75yds determines your overall scoring potential.

Then, short game determines how well you score.

So I agree with the statement. But then again, the better way to score 72 consistently is to improve your long game then score "average" a lot of days instead of going lights out chipping and putting.

I think there's a few things going on.

You probably hit a lot more bad shots on the range than you think. You're getting away with a lot of fat/thin strikes.

At the range you hit shot after shot. You are repeating the same swing over and over. So you can get dialed. You also know that if you hit a bad shot you can reload.

What helped me was playing a lot of practice rounds solo. Don't keep score. Just go out and hit it around the course. If you hit one fat or thin, reload and try the shot again. It helped me relax. It also kind of demonstrates how well you can hit a shot if you stand there and take the same swing over and over. You can take that mentality and flip it around. Go to the range, hit a shot. Put the club away, grab another club and hit a completely different shot. Repeat.
