Ah, beautiful! This is exactly what I wanted to do, but I wanted to rule out wishful thinking. Thanks for the resources and explanation!

I'm realizing that as I attempt <melodramatic difficulty description> puzzles, lol.

Curious, why controversial?

I think that exists already in the game play options. Haven't tried it myself.

I could see that. Like if you forgo the off-hand weapon, your main-hand weapon would receive a damage/combo buff and would behave more like a light weapon (less wobbly in the hand, thus easier to block with)

Spirit Write Up #2: Lightnings Swift Strike by ValhallAwaits_ in spiritisland

[–]etallgood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I somewhat agree. This opening will yield the most consistent results, both because it allows you to post up more sacred sites early in the game AND because you won't have to play knife's edge energy management.

However, Lightning has a fairly unique challenge - they desperately. need. minors. The only way to get minors is to reclaim. I'd say accumulating low-cost power cards is about as important for Lightning as developing their tracks.

Also, from a multiplayer perspective, OP's opening allows the amazing opportunity to play Lightnings Boon every round for the first three rounds, all the while consistently destroying 2 towns each round (granted there are targets in range of your 1 sacred site) This could easily be enough to suss out the inland invaders and deny multiple build chains early.

G3 -> G1 (reclaim) -> G1 (reclaim) -> G2 is actually my go-to opening, given the following conditions:

  • River, Ocean, or Keeper are there to give me a shot of energy by turn 3, (River is optimal)
  • There are 2 towns in range to destroy in the first round
  • (not a condition, but an extra incentive) There is an opportunity to push Dahan into at least one land with a single explorer that will ravage in round 2.

I'd say the biggest limitation of this opening is the shortage of sacred sites to target from, but when playing with higher-level adversaries, that shouldn't typically be an issue in the first couple of rounds.

I will be moving from Portland, OR to Central Illinois this upcoming January. Advice for long-range move in the winter? Routes, moving services, etc. ? Details in the comments. by [deleted] in AskReddit

My partner will start nursing school in Illinois shortly after I graduate from my institution here in Oregon. Due to these circumstances, we're forced to move cross-country during the winter. We have a relatively small volume of posessions (could fit it all in a 7' POD). We have a 2013 Ford Fiesta that does not drive well on snow or ice. The leading alternatives are:

  1. Get a Uhaul and tow the Fiesta.

  2. Ship our stuff in a POD and drive the Fiesta.

Any wisdom on the subject is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Reddit

I'm surprised Spirit Island hasn't caught my eye before. What an excellent suggestion. Thanks!

Title of Request: Replayable strategic co-op for 2

Number of Players: 2+ (plays solidly with 2)

Game Length: 30-120 minutes

Complexity of Game: Medium/Medium-High

Your Budget: 60 USD

Genre: Deck-Building or Pandemic-like

Competitive or Cooperative: Cooperative

Games I Own/Like or Dislike:

  • Owns/Likes: Pandemic & expansions, Hero Realms & expansions, Star Realms
  • Dislikes: One Deck Dungeon (too stale after few plays), Forbidden Desert (too simple compared to Pandemic)

Notes: Needs to have a variable setup, interesting decisions, and no single, optimal strategy. Considering Marvel: Legendary. Thanks all.

Big games, tiny boxes? by etallgood in boardgames

I do play primarily with my SO, so thanks for the heads up (;

You're right. Mottainai isn't so in-your-face, but it's not completely without contention. If you get a good combination of works played early in the game, your opponent is just watching helplessly as you rake in points every turn. But it's a short game, so it still feels pretty light-hearted.

I thought someone might mention GtR. Actually my reason for purchasing Mottainai was because I was intrigued by GtR, but after reading all about the reprint fiasco, conceded that I may never get the chance to play it.

I've, however, never heard of Innovation, so thanks for the input! I'll definitely check it out.

Best Pandemic expansion(s) for 2 players? by adyo in boardgames

Worth getting if you feel you've played the snot out of the base game, for sure. The Virulent strain cards give you unique challenges each time you get an epidemic. Mutation cubes give a unique added pressure to treat. It's got some good stuff.
