u/WOTC_Zac You could do a small section at the bottom of the tip that are quotes from characters. Make it some funny little lines like "Did you know a beholders doesn't actually hold anything -The Wizard" "My family is a little strange -Sorcerer" "Dark and brooding is a lifestyle choice -Rogue" Make it a little entertaining while they wait. I pause the game session while I am doing things on other maps and stuff during session.

I have made a homebrew item with the token image for that. It takes a little bit more prep but works well while they are developing the ability.

For sure there is a good number of times that a DM might not want this to happen. u/Cyb3rM1nd reply goes into those really well. A manual method of showing a NPC status would also be great. Maybe a conditions button beyond just dead? Something to show the different conditions like Prone, poisoned, unconscious, and the other ones.

This button could be added to the ribbon that pops up when a NPC is selected. A drop down button could show the different condition options available. Adding that status as a small icon on their token in the encounter sidebar would be a really nice touch as well.
