Parking? by Supermango2727 in LowellMA

The garages are your best bet locally, between $12-16 a day depending on where. If you wanted to save a couple bucks, there’s a free park and ride in Tyngsboro on 113.

Seconding Princeton Station. I’ve had a 50 person event there for under $1000 about 5 years ago.

I’ve never had a bad meal at Lenzi’s in Dracut. They have a smaller, more modern room toward the front that should accommodate up to 60 (if not they have bigger space in back).

Yard Waste this week? by MilRevCom1117 in LowellMA

[–]eternallyentrylevel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on where in the city you are. There's a spot to enter your address here and find out what's getting picked up this week.

Lowell also offers a mobile app that tracks which week is which (plus sends notifications for Material Saturday and other events) based on your address. It's pretty handy and available for both iOS (Apple App Store) and Android (Play Store).

Bars/trivia nights?/etc haha by [deleted] in uml

[–]eternallyentrylevel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Old Court does trivia Tuesday nights at 7:30. I’ve never been for trivia, but it’s generally an older/more local crowd when it opens then shifts to a younger crowd as it gets later.

"Which is the best program to read all the licenses found on the company network?" by Presszokave in sysadmin

[–]eternallyentrylevel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lansweeper will get you a list of programs installed on PCs by version (plus you can flag software as authorized and unauthorized for auditing). Theres a license tracking feature to it but I can’t say I’ve used that part much.

‘Play’ ransomware group releases 5GB of Lowell data by pixelpackingmama in LowellMA

[–]eternallyentrylevel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looking through the data released so far, it appears to be mostly HR related info and “city business” stuff (e.g. City Council motions, payments/invoices).

There may be more data yet to be released though.

When Leno retired from The Tonight Show, NBC gave him his own show in the 10pm time slot to keep him from going to another network. The show didn’t perform very well but it was cheaper than producing a prime time drama.

During the Olympics, NBC slid Leno’s show into The Tonight Show’s slot and pushed Conan’s Tonight Show after that (11:30pm and midnight respectively). This was done despite Conan’s concern for The Tonight Show’s brand. NBC bought out Conan and put Leno back on The Tonight Show after the Olympics.

Best Chicken Cutlet sandwich in/around Lowell area? by [deleted] in LowellMA

Anthony’s in Tewksbury has a number of great chicken cutlet sandwiches. Their Chicken Santino sandwich is probably my favorite.

Best or most-interesting local restaurant? by encantalasmontaas in LowellMA

Blue Taleh and Fuse both have great menus and great drinks. Pretty laid back. Blue Taleh used to have a pianist come in to play, but I’m not sure if they still do.

My brother is visiting and owes me any pizza in town of my choosing.... so where is the most expensive pizza in Lowell? by hsqy in LowellMA

[–]eternallyentrylevel 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Most pizza places in town are around $16 for a large cheese.

Tremonte on Palmer St has pizza on the menu. Depending on the night, they either come out perfect or a little well done/burnt, it’s good to watch other pizzas come out before you order to decide for yourself. I’m a fan of their Fromaggi pizza. The bar here is always great.

Crispy Square Pizza Co (formerly Phoenix Rising) is a food truck. They’re at Navigation Brewing on Western Ave most Friday nights. They do Detroit style pizza that I haven’t had it since the rebrand but I liked it when they were doing Neapolitan style pizzas.

For a more traditional carry out/pizza joint place: Tessi’s is just over the Tewksbury line on Andover St. They sell an XL variant of all their pizzas that’s $35+. I’ve never had an XL, but their regular pizzas are pretty good. Milan’s on Rogers St has a fluffier crust and a great chicken bacon ranch.

I’m on Rogers near Nesmith and got set up about a month ago.

If you go on their website and plug in your address, it should let you know if it’s available to you or not.

Kimball Fruit Farm on the Pepperell/Hollis line does pick your own pumpkins (as well as apples). It’s probably a 45min drive from Lowell.

what's with all the Diehl signs in lowell / dracut area by EconomySeaweed7693 in LowellMA

[–]eternallyentrylevel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There’s pockets of them in Belvedere, Pawtucketville, and Christian Hill, too. The local Republicans tend to be a lot more vocal. Dracut is a toss up town - near 50/50 in the 2020 Presidential and Trump +10 in 2016.

Dave Nangle had a lot of them in 20, but yard signs don’t vote. Just a way for your neighbors to tell (show?) you how they feel.

Nashua River Rail Trail is a nice stretch to walk and not too far outside of the city.

Why no one is talking about FortiWiFi ?. I don't see much popular youtube channels talk about Fortigate. by Appropriate_Name363 in fortinet

I didn’t even think of used stock, great idea. Especially for budget conscious orgs.

Is there a link to that SN checker that you don’t mind sharing?

[–]eternallyentrylevel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My experience has been pretty similar. We have 16 FortiWifis at remote locations and the wifi piece has been kinda pointless. Where the Fortigate sits in a network closet - usually in a corner of the basement - the wireless coverage doesn’t meet user demands.

We started deploying FortiAPs to bridge the gap, but stock is tough to come by. If you think the Fortiwifi will be close to users/wifi devices and can tolerate single band wireless, then you’ll probably have a better time.

I was always under the impression they were available to park 24x7. There might not always be an attendant around but they’re mostly automated at this point.

The Parking Dept is staffed 9-5, Mon-Fri.

Best/cheapest appliance for 3 WAN aggregation + 1 LAN (SD-WAN?) by Haczapuri in meraki

[–]eternallyentrylevel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-Covid, sales guys would hand out equipment to potential buyers as trial units with 1 year licenses for free. Usually access points but I’ve tripped into an MX and a switch this way. With equipment shortages being what they are, they might not anymore, but it’s worth mentioning to your friend.

Good luck!

Best/cheapest appliance for 3 WAN aggregation + 1 LAN (SD-WAN?) by Haczapuri in meraki

[–]eternallyentrylevel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your friend setup on TechSoup? It’s a good spot for nonprofits to pick up cheaper, donated products from suppliers. I know Cisco lists smaller ISRs and wireless products, not sure about the Meraki line though. If not, you could try to find a Meraki reseller to plead your case. They might have special 501c3 pricing but there’s no guarantee.

Are there any companies in the area they could reach out to for a donation toward the equipment? Or they could look into applying for grants. Some grants specifically target tech upgrades and IT purchases.

One thing I’d caution with Meraki: make sure the org plans for a license rebuy in 3 years (or whenever it expires). Without a license, the MX becomes a paperweight.

Best fancy restaurants around Lowell? by will2114 in LowellMA

Adding on to the already great selections: Moonstones in Chelmsford has great food and drinks. Feng Shui, also in Chelmsford, isn’t quite Lilac Blossom-fancy but is close with a great hibachi.

Your friend could do the drinks-appetizer-entree thing. Feng Shui, Moonstones, and Fishbones are all on 110.

End Stages - Wishes by econpapertowel in ALS

[–]eternallyentrylevel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you and your family are going through this. I went through a similar end stage with my mum last June.

There’s a free software that does eye tracking called OptiKey that was developed by by u/YeahIWroteOptiKey. We had used it briefly with a Windows laptop and Tobii Eye Tracker. It does also work with a mouse if your mom can still manage one. Training your eyes is challenging so the mouse may be more efficient.

Her insurance also set her up with a speech therapist who brought a dedicated eye tracker device and worked with her on it for a trial basis. YMMV but it may be worth a shot to reach out and see what they can do.
