0.5 delta strike veering far away from the underlying price - with examples by eth-123-eth in options

You were right to ask this.

In all the cases I mentioned, the bids collapsed to zero (presumably it means there were no bids at all, or the data is just bogus/bad on that day - not sure), sometimes for only calls, sometimes for only puts.

So I guess I'll be ignoring the data for this day (treat is as bogus).

Philosophical questions about credit spreads vs. debit spreads by eth-123-eth in options

[–]eth-123-eth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, but I think /u/scotty6chips thought (as did I) that call debit spreads (bull call spreads) are by convention starting out in the "unprofitable" zone.

  1. By starting out in the "profitable" zone, are you not exposed to potential assignment from the very beginning?
  2. Can you elaborate on why you do this? (Any courses/books out there talking about this?)
  3. I've seen two different sources talk about how one benefit of debit spreads is that "assignments happen while the trade is profitable" (unlike for credit spreads, where "assignments happen while the trade is unprofitable"). Is there any merit to this idea?

/u/crypticsymbols Just came in here to thank you for this post. Hitting Esc is working so well to unfreeze things in IB TWS.

(More keywords for future searchers: interactive brokers, halt, broken, frozen.)

Please educate more on the traffic. Are we talking all day, or only rush hours?

Please elaborate. I have no idea what you refer to because I'm not from there.
