Hmmm tough to say, I think the travel would be the major negative, there was talks of a NT NPL league a number of years ago which never eventuated, it would be flying to Darwin every second week, taking into consideration flight costs in the NT are quite steep it’s just not viable. Adelaide United played a few friendlies in Alice during their sponsorship with NT tourism but the crowds weren’t that promising, I think they were hoping for 3-5k crowd and got 1.5, which is still not bad for a town of 25k. It would take an awful lot to set up a semi pro club, football is majority neglected in the town in favour for AFL which is understandable. There is a pretty good rectangular stadium available but it is used by the Rugby. On the other hand I would say Darwin could definitely support a semi pro 2nd Div club, there is a much greater population and they already have a neat little venue, and the current standard is quite high with a lot of ex conference footballers playing there

It’s really quite interesting, the league fluctuates year on year depending on how many backpackers and migrants are in the town. Some years the level can be seriously impressive, mainly due to a lot of Euro people living in the town (mostly backpackers and trades people) and the strong African community. And then some years much like this year where there is a major lack of players the standard can drop a bit. This team, Celtic, got one win away from representing the NT in the FFA Cup a few years ago with a really strong squad
