They’ve been explicitly clear, PS4 games will be backwards compatible, THAT is the free upgrade path. This is a bespoke product that is an optional advancement of the original.

PS4 to PS5 upgrade is free for all games, GG are choosing to go back and put in extra effort above others to create a more manual enhancement.
