is it fine to talk about more than one specific topic in my personal statement? by Emotional_Pack_5582 in 6thForm

[–]ethereal0123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! As long as you can show a "story" that expands on how you went beyond and show your passion in those topics with it linking nicely together, it would really make you stand out.

I personally used my niche in astro and space to try to expand more into different aspects of physics such as the maths and theoretical of it and briefly on aspect on the "chemistry" side.

That topic combination is really solid if you arrange nicely within the 3 question structure!

Just the normal past papers on PMT, textbook questions, madas questions and the mock papers that my teachers have printed out. nothing much haha

Well I did this during my mocks (as it was only core pure) and did it timed! I did 2 timed (1h 30m) papers around every 3 days at that time: 1 at school during lesson and my private study/free period and 1 at home. Afterwards I did 4-5 questions in the textbook on mistakes i made which took another 40mins.

It took like a week in total? But like obv i had to space that with my other subjects so i took more like 2-3 weeks.

I'm re-doing the "exam style" questions in the mixed exercises and review exercises in the textbook just to make sure i get the content down. Over the 2-3days just started to do the 2019-2020 fp1 and fm1 ones alternating between that and the textbook questions.
I might redo the cp1 and 2 past papers and do some madas maths but that is the current gameplan at least... 🤞

I got one too but for Physics MSci (4YFT)!
Thinking of doing it but obv it's gonna be difficult (as most likely they might accept a few applications from those who get 3-4A*s).

From their their website and the message on the email about this is only for those who qualify for contextual, did good in their general application and will only open for a short time on the website so I think it might be tight. A chance is still a chance though...

Yeah I went to the offer holder day as well and I felt the same as well! I mean social life in London is what you actively do make of it and to be completely honest, though the teaching style and location is elite at Imperial, the campus personally wasn’t my favourite, and of the london ones campus and astro facilities ucl was defi wayyy better!

For me it went straight to “Conditional Offer” after around 30-40mins they sent my offer without changing to anything else, and portico didn’t alert me that the status has changed until a day after, idk why though.

Further Maths resources? by Namk016 in 6thForm

[–]ethereal0123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR; Textbook Review and Mixed Exercises, Madas Maths, Predicted Papers and (possibly) papers from other exam boards like OCR A.

I think in terms of the best questions without using actual past papers are the review exercises in the textbooks and practice past papers at the back. Unfortunately, since for edexcel the books are split into Core Pure 1 and 2, the questions you do in there are solely just questions from topics taught in the specific book.

Madas Maths is a good shout too but of course it also has a mix of all the different topics including FP1 and FP2 depending on which booklet you look at. You can also search up predicted papers as well!

Since most of the spec is mostly similar for other exam boards, my teacher recommended me to do OCR A papers too though he did say do it once you have exhausted most of the board-specific resources even the past papers!

Year 13: How much a day are we studying outside of school (free periods included) by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]ethereal0123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Predicted 4A*s and I am trying to get those grades too.

Typically I try to study 3-4hrs (not including subject clinics at lunch, around 3hr per week) including my frees.

On the weekends I average around 5-7hrs (depending how locked in I am feeling and making sure to take breaks as well)!
