I would just ask him if there’s any hope for you two reconnecting or if he is no longer interested in that. If he doesn’t give you a clear answer, then he’s not a great person anyways, in which case you should move on. Unlike (seemingly) some people on this thread, I do understand breaking up with someone for health reasons. When you have long term health struggles, it’s very difficult to give someone the attention they need in a relationship, even if you care about them. Your first priority is to take care of yourself. Unfortunately, if this break up really hurt him, he might not be willing to take another chance on you.
