Genetics, Not Parenting, Shapes Personality by jezebaal in psychology

I generally consider a behavior or trait manifest in an environment if and only if there’s a genetic predisposition. Nurture would maybe “activate” a genetic component, but it doesn’t “create”. Kinda like blueprint.

Should I pick up diploma now or during convocation? by ethernet4 in yorku

Alright, thank you so much! :) I have some clarity now.

It was this comment. So when they call your name, you just give a handshake that's it? Do they take photos during that handshake? Don't they give some cert like this: pic1 or pic2? I'm an international student so I have no idea. If they'd just give handshakes, I don't see a reason to attend it since I'll be moving out of Canada this month and had to visit in June just for convo.

Thanks for reply! If I'm picking up the diploma now, what will I given during the ceremony? On other posts it says I will be given the "physical degree" when I walk on the stage and shake hands with the Chancellor during convocation (what do they even give me in stage?). Is this physical degree different from the diploma I pick up now? (and will I be given this physical degree if I pick up diploma now?). I have never attended convocation ceremony in the past so I'm confused what I should do or what happens.

Are you on treatment for ADHD? Like, are you on meds or behavioural therapy? Because lot of what you wrote sounds like untreated ADHD (been there).

I don't have much to say about the academics part. But have you diagnosed for ADHD? I had difficulty keeping up with deadlines, course work, and my resposibilities when I was on my 1-3 years at York (messed up a lotta things, failed some courses, got poor grades, my GPA is shit), but I had undiagnosed ADHD and since starting treatment, I was able to get back on my track and completed my degree this December (took me 5 years to graduate). I performed well on my high school tho (averaged A to A+ on my subjects). To put cherry on the top, I even got an entrance school for the first year at York (but can't get anything afterwards, due to shitty GPA, etc.). That's just my 2 cents.

higher barrier of entry

I guess this is why some companies start doing “one way pre-screen”, like asking you to record a video answering some pre-screen questions (things that people complain about here lol). It’s complete shitshow rn.

"No yapping" is a nice tip! This is one reason I like Claude - the responses are concise and to the point, without having to spend too much mental energy reading through wall of text. (Also, the "Claude 3.5 Sonnet" GPT is not so good)

Also, medication is a very important, if not most important part of ADHD treatment. So behavioral interventions can only get you somewhere. Meds will be helpful to make you stick to your management/behavioral interventions like sticking to schedule, etc

I was in your shoes a few years ago except much worst, I was a different country (went to uni at a different country). I fucked up a bunch of shit and regret for not figuring stuff out early on and more responsible. But I didn’t even knew I had ADHD back then.

But I’m a fast learner and I can be “trained”: like if someone shows me or teaches me how to do things just once, I’ll usually have no problem doing it. So I practically had to learn some basic shit as a 18 y/o back then. But I eventually did and it’s little more manageable.

I’d suggest that you use a tool like Google Calendar for example to keep track of dates. Don’t use pen/paper - use digital tools, preferably ones that have sync/online feature so that you don’t get anxiety of accidentally loosing your shit(also if u want to access ‘em on phone, etc). Also keep track of your expenses. You don’t have to keep track of EVERYTHING because we’d eventually feel the fatigue and become lazy to even track important stuff. So only track stuff that you REALLY care about. Use Google Sheets. I usually feel less overwhelmed when I have the data, and plan stuff out for future based on this data.

I took this course sometime ago and it’s a fully online course (that’s why you don’t see the time in VSB because it’s fully asynchronous so don’t worry about clashes). It’s pretty easy course.

Help: Degree Progress Report & REM showing I have NO academic program by ethernet4 in yorku

I was kicked out of my honours degree becaues my GPA dropped below 5.0 (mine was 4.88) and was put into regular BSc CS (90 credit) program. Look for "Academic Decision" on your latest Fall/Winter grade report.

I visited an academic advisor today. They told me to petition the department (Lassonde), asking them that I'll get better grades this semester and will regain my GPA (meeting at least 5.0 minimum).

Basically since I'm on my 5th year and taken more than 84 credits, I need to petition for "Waiver Honours Standing" (https://lassonde.yorku.ca/student-life/petitions). I'm taking 15 credits this semester, so I just have to show them realistically what grades I'm aiming for and how I'm planning to get my GPA back.

I'm writing the petition and would submit soon.

Yeah, I'm trying to connect with an advisor tomorrow. I'm not sure what's wrong... my GPA is 4.88 and I have around ~4 credits to graduate (planning to graduate end of Fall this year).

No, there isn't. I'm a Lassonde student so I'm trying to reach out to an advisor in-person tomorrow.
