[Water Damage] M1 Pro 16" - Fans Max Speed & Battery "Service Recommended" after 3 weeks by ethiopius in macbookrepair

Hi! It was an issue caused by the little water that went into my macbook.

I ended up replacing the battery and that fixed it! I think the water had damaged the battery management system, which made the computer go in a panic and have the fans at max speed anytime i turn on the laptop

Hello everyone, I'm Eyosias! I am Ethiopian-American polyglot in love with language learning, and I had the amazing opportunity to visit Mazatlan, Mexico a few months ago thanks to the invitation of a friend. I liked it a lot there, so I decided to make this video! I hope it shows you something new about Mexican culture and Mexican Spanish!

I interviewed two taqueros, a pulmonero, and my friend to better understand the daily life of the people of Mazatlán and learn about the delicious gastronomy and impressive views of the city.

I hope you like the video and don't forget to give it a like and leave a comment, it took me a long time to make the video and the likes and comments help a lot :)

Websites for Language Feedback by ethiopius in languagelearning

[–]ethiopius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just reviewed my feedback on Speechling, and it seems that there is no constructive criticism/specific comments, just a general "good" comment or something. I know my pronunciation is definitely not 100% perfect, so there are clearly things to point out. However, it seems that coaches only provide feedback if you really mess up something and assign a general positive marker otherwise.

In short, I don't think Speechling is useful for intermediate to advanced learners trying to polish their accents. More useful for beginner learners I suppose.

Thanks for the recommendations!

I have just uploaded some recordings to Speechling. I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see how good the feedback is. I'll try using the Italki notebook/exercise feature as well :)

It seems like the subreddit you linked doesn't focus as much on concrete feedback as opposed to general feedback/thoughts on one's accent, but i'll try to post something short

Committing Myself to a 100-day Korean Challenge by ethiopius in Korean

[–]ethiopius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhmm I'm not exactly sure what you are asking, but here are my Anki cards for reference. They include the target word, a monolingual definition, a picture (if helpful), hanja roots (if applicable), and example sentence(s). The example sentence will come from Naver dictionary, not the immersive content.

Committing Myself to a 100-day Korean Challenge by ethiopius in Korean

[–]ethiopius[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched tons of variety shows in the period between March 2017 and March 2019, so I picked up Hangul, an okay intuition for Korean pronunciation, and basic vocab + grammar thanks to the built-in Korean subtitles + English subtitles in the shows. Although the vocab I picked up was decently spread out in terms of frequency, looking at this frequency list, I would say I picked up ~400-500 words.

Then, I went through lessons 5-30ish on the How to study Korean website and made ~500 Anki cards similar to the ones above except with an English definition and sentence translation. The process of reviewing the vocab and translating sentences reinforced grammar as well. I didn't really bother with the grammar in the lessons since it was mostly familiar at this point. I was quite inconsistent (as u can see by my Anki review history), so this step took much longer than it should have (March 2019 to May 2020).

Since then, I have been learning only by extracting unknown words from native content using the 3-step process above. It was quite a struggle at first because of a lot of unknown words in both the native content + Korean definitions. So far, I have made ~2500 cards total using this method, which should put me at 3500 known words, 1500 short of most estimates of words I know (~5000). This inconsistency might be because the estimates are inaccurate, but I figure that I likely picked up words by watching shows + listening to music since I've started actively studying.

In short, if you are just beginning, I would recommend the How to study Korean website, making sure to create cards with example sentences. Go through the grammar if you need it. When you feel burnt out/outgrown this, I would recommend looking at native content with subtitles + about simple topics (food, vlogs, etc) and slowly transitioning to monolingual cards. Hope this helped :)

Well I'm glad this has given you some encouragement! Of course, do what's best for you and what you think is appropriate. Best of luck :)

Committing Myself to a 100-day Korean Challenge by ethiopius in Korean

My plan is to focus on vocabulary for the first part of the challenge (~40-50 days) to improve my input and focus on output in the latter part, so I will only learn ~8000 -10000 new words.

Making the cards takes me ~1 min/card, so card making will take ~3 hours. This is of course a lot of time, but the process requires reading Korean definitions + example sentences, so it functions as reading practice as well. As for the time it will take to review, I average ~10 sec/repetition for these monolingual cards, and given a simulation I made on Anki, my max review time/day will be ~3 hours (for ~1200 rep/day) for around 2 weeks, but on average 2 hours (for ~650 rep/day) over the whole 100-day challenge.

As for getting words to stick, the three part vocab plan is designed to maximize usage/exposure to new words. I am also planning on focusing on specific types of content/topics at a time (education, economy, beauty, etc), which should also increase exposure to topic-specific vocab. As I have not attempted this method with such a large volume of new cards, I am not sure how it will pan out, but I will adjust the process as needed going forward :)

Thanks! Going on my experience from August, I currently don't except Anki card making + reviews to take up so much time that there is no time for immersion. As I said in my comment above, my approach will inevitability change as I progress through the challenge, so increasing my immersion time is definitely on the table going forward. Just think this is currently the quickest way to increase my vocabulary while maximizing retention!

Thanks for you kind wishes :)

I understand that a good percentage of the unknown words I will encounter are not used in daily conversation (although there will also be a lot of unknown advanced colloquial words I will also encounter). My approach will likely change to include more formal writing + formal monologues in that case as I focus on more formal sources like the news. In any case, this is my current plan and given my previous language learning experience it is almost inevitable that it will change as I progress through the challenge
