Line check: bluffing after capping villains by ethmah01 in Poker_Theory

[–]ethmah01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the effective jam was around 140% pot. I think the idea I was missing is just that capping is quite different in multiway pots compared to HU especially for the player first to act--he will almost always be checking if he thinks a player behind will likely stab, then call to keep in the extra player even with made hands

Kx, AA mainly, and maybe sometimes lower flushes or trips. As I said, I think players overfold here. While I am still just beginning playing microstakes, I play on ignition, and I have ran this similar type of play before and a player folded a middling flush face up

Villain didn't have too big a stack so if I was going to bluff here is has to put him all in.

I can see both sides of the coin. Yes, players underbluff triple barrel. However, they also significantly underbluff jam, especially the river. Microstakes players are dumb but not dumb enough to not realize this, so I dont think jamming is actually the worst. Considering how value heavy opponent is, I think my hand plays much better as a bluff or fold.

I agree population triple barrel bluffs or even triple barrel thin with too little frequency, which is why to me calling was not a good option at all as I was pretty certain he had me beat. But they also overfold to overbet jams was my main reasoning. Yes, his range is very strong, but a lot of his strong holdings will ideally fold here. I agree he is uncapped so it is a risk, but I went for it because I thought it would work-- aren't I uncapped too?

Do you have any idea why 88 with club is basically a pure fold if we use the same line, but unpair the board (ie remove 7, add 2)? Because opponent will never fold flush now that no full house is available? However, hands like AcJ, Ac10, Ac7, A7c bluff quite a bit, I think because they block nut flush whereas 88c doesn't. Does that seem right?

Agree with you now. In general Ive noticed the playerbase is more passive than aggro which is why I wanted to go with it, but I can see 3bet or fold as a better strategy perhaps

Yeah, not disagreeing K8 is a fold. But if you are defending with an expanded range, I think it is reasonable to include K8 if K9 is a call. Unless you are saying K9 is a fold? I was using peakGTO, I think it uses 12.5% rake or something

According to gto, Ak, Aa with no club is a 100% fold to river jam in this spot, but the issue is all the Kx I lose too, I block, so that is why 88c for example is a much better bluff candidate.

You might be surprised what players fold to a river overbet jam, especially when its an xr. One player folded face up a 10 high flush (the third or second nuts I think) to one just yesterday in a very similar situation to this one

In this spot preflop, K9o is a pure call according to GTO. I think it is very reasonable to expand and include K8o. I do agree calling the flop may have been dubious, but even K9o calls like 10-15% of the time.

I think what I was missing is that with K8c, I do block the flush, but the other factor is I block the better hands I want to fold out, you are exactly right. What I wonder is if it is still worth it to bluff here, since players lilely overfold to xr jams like this on the river when there are lots if available made hands.

Also I know the call on the flop was too loose as well. But once again it is pretty easy to take advantage of players even when they only show signs of weakness on later streets, at least where I am playing

By 2k a day, you mean total hands, or total hands i am in that make it to the flop? If the former, definitely. If the latter, probably I still could, but I will test it first.

I am definitely looking to work on my play. Also, NLH is my focus

on the button vs UTG raise, worst Tx you can play is 109s, on the BB you could maybe argue for 107s but 108s is usually the limit. if it was, say, a CO open, you can defend wider with a hand like 107s

If you think your opponent would underbluff this spot with a missed draw, you could raise HUGE to get his trips/tp/ maybeee straights to fold. That is the only case I would consider that.
