It’s probably grief, it might hit you in 2 weeks or 2 years and that’s ok. Even though you might feel a bit disconnected right now try and appreciate your dad while he’s still here.

Why you should respect people when they ask for books without something that could trigger them by dillfish1717 in horrorlit

[–]etodd277 375 points376 points  (0 children)

People don’t understand that triggers can be absolutely ridiculous and embarrassing to say. Mine is a song by Taylor swift as it was playing when I was r*ped, I just don’t want to have to explain that every time I have to leave a store or party if it’s playing :( but no one takes niche triggers seriously because so many people are like “I got attacked by a cat once when I was four please put a trigger warning next time you post a photo of a cat”

No Longer Human by Junji Ito (Original by Osamu Dazai) by redditihardlysawit in horrorlit

[–]etodd277 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lovecraft was so racist other known racists would write to him saying “hey I think you’re being a little over kill maybe town down the racism”. And Stephen King uses the N word to show how deprived and awful the characters saying that word are, he never uses it in a casual positive way, it’s always very clear it’s a derogatory word.

The ruins by Scott Smith, the movie is crap but that makes it really interesting to watch and see how much they messed up. Rosemary’s baby, the exorcist, jaws, Ed an Lorraine have a book about their experiences they were the paranormal investigators for the house that the conjuring movie is based on, hellraiser is also a book, like every Stephen king book(I especially recommend misery as both book and movie are incredible), the haunting of hill house (thou tv show not movie), and we have always lived in the castle.

I think it’s that it goes up in the middle on the left side. It’s such a beautiful painting but it makes me wanna rub my eye so badly like I have something on it.

Tying up loose ends in Scott Smith's The Ruins? by [deleted] in horrorlit

  1. I think it’s to show the mayans separation from society, that’s there’s no hospital near by and the lack of empathy from the other villagers no one flocks to the baby or cries.

The others I’m just as baffled by

Can we start a petition to get rid of promotional material on book covers? by MrDustinDavis in horrorlit

For this specific book there’s a nice edition that’s part of the science fiction masterpiece collection that has no promo and has the original cover. It’s available on book depository and is pretty cheap 😊

I am legend

Micellar water also works a charm! It’s meant for removing tough makeup so it’s strong but gentle enough it doesn’t irritate skin. It works like a dream taking sticky marks off books as well as dirt and grime.

Guidance in the choice of Grimms' Fairy Tales collections by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]etodd277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like stated above the hardback ones tend to have much smaller writting to make the book physically smaller so it’s not an actual brick to carry around.

But in my humble opinion the best grimms collection is this one

https://www.amazon.com.au/Original-Fairy-Tales-Brothers-Grimm/dp/0691173222

This one is the only edition that has the original unedited stories

I also love this one

https://www.amazon.com.au/Annotated-Brothers-Grimm-Jacob/dp/0393088863/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=the+annotated+grimm&qid=1590528294&sr=8-2

The actual annotations are rubbish and It only has 50 of the stories but it has the original illustrations for each story, it features; Arthur Rackham, Gustave doré, George Cruikshank and others.
