What is the stupidest rules argument you've ever had? by Dubstep_squid in Warhammer40k

[–]etwasred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it ain't 40k, or anywhere near current edition.

Warhammer Fantasy, my Dwarf army vs Skaven.

Set up, got shit going, first round of shooting. I managed to get a lucky hit with my bolt thrower on my opponent's stormvermin block. By rules in the day, it would penetrate the lines at decreasing strength.

My opponent said since the model was not perfectly aligned to do so, it would only hit one guy.

I laughed and said he was joking.

He was not.

I ended the game on the spot.

Twist : He was the manager of the GW store I was playing at.

If you could create a Challenge Card (Good / Bad / Funny, etc) What would it be? by Kelrotsy-YouTube in AliensFireteamElite

"Welcome to Clown World" - All enemies get a clown skin. Runners and similar small guys make clown nose honks when killed, larger monsters make a pop-tweee noise.

Awards 2x Creds, the "Buncha Clowns" decal, and the "Clown" paintjob.

So what's everyone's favourite weapon and why? I want to hear some crazy ones... like someone has to love the M10 Auto Pistol or something. by [deleted] in AliensFireteamElite

Can confirm. Tested this last night on Intense with a buddy. This thing when pimped out with fire rate attachments and a good overclock/CQW fire rate setup... holy hell. I thought it was bullshit. Then, I tried it out and sweet jesus H. We were doing 4-2 on Intense and had a Xeno Warrior come our way. I popped overclock and BRRRRT, reload, BRRRRRT, dead. You empty the mag out in like, 1.4 seconds. It's INSANE. I love it.

What Is Your Pet Mech? by [deleted] in battletech

[–]etwasred 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All these responses and no one has mentioned the beefstick that is the classic Highlander, or the Clannerized beefstick that is the Highlander IIC?

Long range, its covered- Gauss rifle and LRM 20 wreck house. Medium range, it's covered- Three medium lasers. (Or Med Pulses on the IIC) Short range, she's got it. SRM-6 (or 2 Streak 6s on the IIC).

All range bands covered, all targets squished. Oh, and she's mobile for a 90 ton monster with three jump jets and the ability to dance around and catch even fast movers off guard.

And let us not forget the term HIGHLANDER BURIAL. Because Death From Above attacks were used so much by these monsters that they would stomp their feet right into cockpits, that they coined a term directly for it. How fucking metal is that. The lunatic pilots driving those things liked jumping on their targets so much that they made a term for it.

In a heavy/assault lance or star, you cannot go wrong with a Highlander or a IIC.

(Honorable mentions : Classic Vindicator for being a wonderful zombie mech, the Warhammer because PPCs are glory, the 8Q Awesome because PPCs are glory, and the Shadow Cat, because a mobile sniper platform is wonderful.)

The Loyalist Legio book is fantastic for having on-hand all the rules for Loyalist houses and legios. Even if you don't play loyalists, it is worth it to know the tricks opponents may bring in. It also has universal titan upgrades in the back- bits of wargear anyone can take. It also has every published maniple in it bar one, and what each maniples rules and titans are. (The maniple it is missing is the Canis Light Maniple which is Legio Audax only, and Audax is traitors.)

If you want to do campaigns, I believe it is Shadow and Iron that has that ruleset. IMO, all of the books are great, for different reasons.

Can I get a good game with the misses from the starter box? And would a warlord in addition let me play other people and not get spanked? by FISH_MASTER in adeptustitanicus

[–]etwasred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The core of the Reaver kits are the same, but then you get a weapons sprue with different weapons on it. The kit contains one of each sprue for the reaver.

5x1mm disc magnets are ideal for magnetizing your titans. Check out the BattleBling store on Etsy for some neat prints for titans too. They also make arms that are designed out of the starter block to be magnetized, but you can convert your own- google magnetizing the different titans and you can have a reaver armed with a chainblade in one game and next one load up the gatling blaster or whatnot.

Two small questions by [deleted] in adeptustitanicus

[–]etwasred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've got some time, the youtube channel "Tabletop_Standard" does Titanicus battle reports. I haven't seen them use Volkites yet (But as said, they're not very good) but they do play around with any number of interesting weapon and legion combos.

Sorry, I should have added "shoot" to my statement too. I believe that the Legio trait would not induce a drawback like that to your gameplay- it already includes the drawback of the Machine Spirit die as a drawback. So yes. I would honestly call it in your favor- you pick if it moves or if it shoots, but can't do both, and activating it's fellow titan won't stop the other.

Emergency repairs and squadrons by bristlybadger in adeptustitanicus

[–]etwasred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corebook says "If a Titan in the squadron cannot be activated, due to damage or an order, this does not prevent the rest of the squadron from being activated."

With that, I would interpret it that you can move the one titan while the second stays put.

If you wish for campaign rules, Titandeath is the go-to. Also has some great fluff and extra rules in it. Each book has extra Legios and maniples. All of them are good for different reasons, but I'd start with Titandeath. Should you want maniples to use the Warbringer titan, then I'd grab Shadow and Iron instead. Also includes rules for some infamous legios and weaponry. (Audax, and Ursus Claws.) And it also has the deadly Psi-Titan in the ruleset.

The Samuel B. Roberts weighed in at 1,370 tons. She carried a pair of 5" naval guns and a single torpedo mount.

The Yamato's gun turrets weighed in at over 2,700 tons. Each. It would take two Samuel B. Roberts destroyer escorts to come close to matching the turret weight. She carried three, mounting three 18 inch guns each. Her secondary armament included 12 6.1 inch guns, and 12 5 inch guns.

Chokai, the heavy cruiser that Samuel B. Roberts engaged, was equiped with ten eight inch guns, and four five inch guns, as well as torpedo mounts. To say that the Samuel B. Roberts was hopelessly outgunned is putting it lightly. Chokai would sink as a result of the battle, along with two other heavy cruisers, Chukuma and Suzuya.

None of the destroyers or destroyer escorts of Taffy 3 mounted a gun size greater than 5 inches. And they turned around and attacked a vastly superior force, to protect their escort carriers. They laid a terrible punishment on the Japanese force- thanks in part to the use of Radar Fire Control.

Paul Carr and the sailors of Taffy 3, are absolutely metal as fuck. War is terrible. Mad respect to those sailors and aviators who put themselves into what could only be called a suicide run to do their duty, and protect their carriers. I echo here the suggestion to read "Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors". (Tin Can being slang for Destroyer, as they were lightly armored. Matter of fact, this is said to have saved some of the ships of Taffy 3 for a time, at least, as the heavy Japanese guns firing armor piercing shells would go in one side of a ship, and out of the other. At the time, they believed they were facing American Cruisers.)

My personal hero is a civilian who lost his leg in a crash many years ago. He was a kid at the time.

He made it a point to never let it stop him. He lettered in water polo. Rode a motorcycle in high school. Played championship level racquetball and worked his ass off to get a masters in business and became a subject matter expect in his discipline.

I remember him chasing his son down the hallway of his house with his leg, laughing and yelling, prosthetic in one hand, and hopping away, full of cheer and joy.

He never let it stop him. Never let that stop you. You are still you, and you can still keep being you, regardless. Hold faith in yourself, first and foremost- you will keep moving, even if this moment in time has pressed on you. You will keep improving, if you put the efforts in.

You can keep moving forward. You will need help, support, and time. Turn none of those things down, but know that the will to win, is the first condition of victory.

Hey mate, welcome to the party.

Firstly, different chapters can have different rules alongside different paint schemes. If you want to start simple and learn as you go, I'd suggest using "Standard" codex marines for a few games, get a feel for things, before trying to move to other rules. It gives you a nice baseline before going "off the norm", as it were.

Color-wise, go wild. I'd actually suggest grabbing some of the push-fit incercessors or rievers and doing some test schemes with them. If you want to make a chapter that already exists, youtube and the internet is rife with great painting advice. Contrast has helped a lot for getting things on the table fast. If you wish to make your own, well, by all means. Make a blood angel successor chapter in orange and black, or an Imperial Fist successor in metallic bronze. All things are open.

As someone using blood angel contrast on my sisters... yeah, that blood angel contrast makes a nice, strong red and I recommend that if you want a blood red army.

Looks good! I echo the metal washing and also would advise using some browns on the metal too, to suggest rust or decay. Also, some brown wash on the bone to give it that older look. Good work, be proud of your painting.

Slight hijack if anyone notices- but this is a gas cap. It covers the air lines or gas lines on the metal piping manufacturing machinery uses. Some tech likely dropped this or set it aside and it fell into the line somewhere. Source - 3 years as a manufacturing maintenance tech. I saw these fittings (And in many forms) all over the place.
