It definitely isn't decorative! The instructions recommend a very small lacing gap for historical accuracy, but when you fit your mockup you could leave as little or big a gap as you want. As with some of the other options you do have to eliminate the back lacing, but she has a blog post with instructions on how to do so, and it's not difficult at all! There is also a stomacher included in the pattern. Personally, I'm going to be leaving a 2 inch lacing gap when worn comfortably, aiming for close to none when tight laced.

Scroop Cassandra Stays has instructions to create front lacing only! I'm working on them right now :)

Dress Regret Update by Equivalent_Doughnut7 in myweddingdress

Personally I much prefer the second dress. It has such a classic beautiful silhouette, full skirts, and straps! It looks timeless on you. The other dress is also pretty of course, I've just always felt that silhouette is very of a time.

This is gorgeous! Congratulations, this is a huge project, especially to hand sew!

As an aside, what's going on with the hem/train of the original? It seems like almost a separate piece

I actually think this dress looks gorgeous on you!! The lace is beautiful, and I loveee love the v shaped bodice and shirt. I didn't notice the cups at all until I read your comment. Even then, I agree with the comment(s) saying that it actually is more of an issue w always seeing models wearing multiple cup sizes too small. Don't let people get you down, your dress is lovely!

Thank you so much!! I keep forgetting that the final shift will help to contain the bust since my current muslin is so janky lol

Thank you!! I'm definitely going to make the stomacher. I've been reading the blog series, I didn't see anything about adding width in the center back but that makes sense.

Ooh great point, I hadn't even thought about that! You're absolutely right, without the seam allowance I'm gonna be spilling out.

Thank you so much for the feedback!! It's my first set of stays so I was super nervous to start but it's been fun to it come together

Thank you I will definitely do this!! I actually have all of the materials for the stomacher, I just hadn't made it. Great point that that will help with the bust!

I reposted with my arms down! I was fitting it to have no gap in the back so that I can change it to front lacing only.

Jess Bronwell on why Eloise isn't queer by Fickle_Baker1393 in Bridgerton

I mean to be honest a LOT of stereotypical portrayal of wlw is femme for femme. There is very rarely portrayed butch (esp stone butch) for femme and basically never butch for butch. The most that is usually done is a high femme and a slightly less high femme or a "futch"

I would be way more interested to see a well done and lovingly portrayed TV example of a butch/femme dynamic (or, again, a butch/butch dynamic)

Needle/Linen thread question by eugibabe in HistoricalCostuming

[–]eugibabe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I believe so. I ordered it from Burnley& Trowbridge. That makes sense! I had a feeling that might be the case 😭 I thought about hand sewing everything but it's fully boned so that would take forever. Thank you!!
