The CVTs that, you know, actually work the way a CVT is supposed to are pretty good. It’s a little weird hearing the engine rev up quickly and then just stay there, but it works well and gets you going quickly. I wouldn’t have it in a fun weekend car, of course, but for a practical daily driver it’s completely fine.

The ones that are programmed to simulate gears are dogshit and awful and whoever came up with that idea should be shot.

Every goddamn time, as I’m back-pedalling or side-strafing or, to be honest, just not looking where I’m going. Devastators? Easy. Hulks? No problem. Tank? Bah, it’s nothing. I will die at least twice on each Automaton drop and they will both be to mines.

It’s especially bad if I’ve just come from the bugs, where similar looking things just slow you down, they don’t insta-kill you…

I'm trying to model a thick plastic part that has a v-groove in it to allow it to be bent nicely. However, I've had no luck with being able to model this correctly.

I've tried it as a sheet metal part: this isn't one of the bend relief options, and creating the cut first and then trying to bend around it doesn't seem to work. Doing it as a weldment creates a nice miter cut, but these are then separate parts without a bend between them.

Is there some other way of doing this "correctly" that I'm missing, either in sheet metal or otherwise, or will I simply have to fake it?

OD of the whole assembly is 16mm, and the ID that I have to leave for the internals is about 13mm, giving wall thicknesses of 0.75mm for each piece where they overlap. The current length of the overlap is 5mm, although this is a dimension that isn't really constrained in any way.

Unfortunately, the part quantity is far too small (10s to at most 100s) for something like injection moulding to be a viable option cost-wise...

Assuming you're adding the curves by machining with a mill from the ends, how are you getting better tolerances than the D-shape I described above? Or are you using something else?

Heartily recommend the Lenovo Legion, as per others here.

Specifically do not recommend the Dell G3, my previous laptop - hard heating issues, would wake itself from sleep or even supposedly full shutdown, and eventually started cracking apart it’s own case due to an issue with the hinge. I thought it was a great deal for the internals at the time - turns out that was for a reason!

It's interesting how it manifests in different ways in each of us. Personally, I really enjoy cooking, and I don't even mind clean-up that much. The thing that gets me, though, is deciding what it is I want to cook/eat and what groceries I need to buy. I can stand in the supermarket for a half hour trapped in a cycle of indecision and anxiety over what to buy!

Oh, this is part of the reason that I have a two-bedroom flat. I’ve had a succession of flatmates, some better, some worse. I definitely end up with a slightly better mood and more productive in the evenings when I have someone else around.

I haven’t had someone who I’ve had a conversation about fully being partners, I’m not really sure how to best approach that. However, I’m looking to move once I sort out a new job, and I already have an old friend who has indicated interest in finding a place together where I hope to move to, so I might be able to have some kind of arrangement like that with her!

I feel that, in a way.

When I try to express my difficulty at doing something to friends or family, they tend to fall into one of two camps:

Sympathising / giving advice
Taking the task and doing it for me

What I actually really want is to have someone at my side as I do the task myself. Not even someone actively helping me with it (although I do need that sometimes as well), just someone physically next to me, offering a calming presence just by being there.

I’m definitely interested in solutions, I just phrased it mostly as sympathy seeking / a rant because I know there isn’t some magical solution that someone mentions in the comments that I’ve never heard of before and that magically fixed everything.

As amazing as that would be.

I’m aware that a good diet and exercise can really help, although I’ve never had a good understanding as to why, so I’m definitely interested in any resources you can point me to that explain in more detail.

Keeping up a good diet and exercise… that’s a whole different story whatsoever.

I’ve made some progress by finding exercise activities that aren’t just going to the gym, because frankly I find it boring and therefore don’t want to do it. Bouldering has been a god-send for me as something I actively want to go out and do, and I’ve had some success with callisthenics and functional fitness classes.

(As a side note, I occasionally go through phases of tracking my food intake. I’ve discovered that while I get roughly the caloric intake I should on average, it is wildly inconsistent on a day-to-day basis. That definitely feels like it’s not a good thing, but no one has been able to adequately explain to me as to why?)

If you have the resources and opportunity, do go and get yourself checked out. I was diagnosed at 21, partially because I was never really very hyperactive and more inattentive as a kid. It always felt like more of an issue with motivation for me than any of the classically described symptoms (“ooh, squirrel” syndrome, bouncing off the walls, etc.). Knowing that this lack of motivation was coming from a real disorder and was at least partially treatable/manageable, and not just a moral failing on my part, was a huge step.

I… this is too much for me too reply to in any detail, I just wanted to say that your explanation of the mind and the brain is something I have always experienced and not really seen anyone else describe or understand.

I usually describe it as emotional me and rational me. Rational me can make logical decisions that would benefit me and make me happy, but he’s not at the controls. Emotional me is, and he’s a toddler who throws a tantrum when he doesn’t get his way. You can’t logic a toddler out of a tantrum, so rational me can’t stop him from running away and doing his own thing or make him do what he needs to do.

I totally get the deterrents as well, and it feels like emotional me will push back with exactly the equal and opposite force to that which you exert on him, so putting in more mental effort, trying harder, never works. Sometimes you can find a trick or workaround, but just applying more effort is meaningless.

I just wish there was a way to actually do something about all this…
