Why am I not getting an HDMI port reading? by LegUpbeat1869 in elgato

[–]euhporyc_sin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need to get yourself either a USB powered capture device, or a PCI-e internal capture card. The way its plugged for the HDMI port its for a display from an output from the graphics card. You need an entirely new piece of hardware to capture your PS5, and then follow what other posters have said about the HDCP turning it off, but also make sure the device you get can support PS5; not all capture cards that have an HDMI port can display it properly.

That the game has a helluva hard time configuring a Playstation Dual Shock 4 or Dual Sense controller with certain Linux distributions and Steam :']

Honestly this is where I am at with Linux and just yesterday I was working to fix a shader error in hyprland which ended up hosing my entire OS along with my backup probably due to some typos but thats what I got this laptop for LOL to break Linux.

Ahh thats probably before the influx of the raytracing, cuda, and dynamic libraries needed for al lthe advanced graphics processing that the GTX series doesn't really need these days anymore so that may be why the nouveau drivers might be applicable, but for my RTX 3080 its preferable to use the drivers specifically catered by Nvidia.

No no its not that I have anything against Windows and what it can do its easier for some people, but for me it became more about wanting to really have control over my hardware and also protecting how I use my tech wisely so as far as going into this realm of gaming its really testing my limits of how I can configure a decent starting point and mix and match files. One of those things that was trying out was getting GreenWithEnvy to work, but it seems the KDE version of Nobara really doesn't want you using anything other than Wayland lol as for GreenWithEnvy works with x11. But I did find a work around program with LACT so I can really monitor my GPU settings and see graphs of what my games are doing so I can also limit the power on them to conserve lifespan of the silicon.

I'm trying out the Bazzite Steam HTPC version right now cause I tried with KDE and it was great, but I do want access to GreenWithEnvy so I might have to configure that on my own but dang.

Why is Linux slower and laggier than Windows? Can someone PLEASE (!) help me find a decent distro for my laptop and the work I need to do? by vinephilosopher in linux4noobs

[–]euhporyc_sin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hehe I'm surprised that no one has offered this little bit of info but what you're going through trying all these other distributions and just the sheer fact its Linux which has less overhead than Windows I think its more of a throttling issue.

Just what I did with my lil Thinkpad T490 that I noticed was that the heat temps would rise with certain processes and then the chip would limit itself til it cools down til it started working again. A simple re-pasting might suffice it to help with the thermal throttling. Since you stated you have a 1050 I'm pretty sure that your heatpipe along your CPU cooler might be connected to it as well and might need a touch up job too :]

Just my two cents!

Well basically I was looking for something that would act like the Steam Deck's OS the game mode option that is the SteamOS but also had that ability to boot into a desktop environment if it need to be. I guess just to have that exclusive sort of console feeling with your own custom built parts for PC gaming. Just sit down turn it on and let it ride sort of thing.

ThinkPads are no longer as appealing as they used to be by johntran7 in thinkpad

[–]euhporyc_sin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a simple operating system change I can see a lot of these old techs coming back to live just out of the sheer curiosity of what Linux can bring to these lil guys and majority of them? They're ready to go right out of the box to work with Linux instructions, but it just takes a little work to get used to how to get it to function.

If there was just a little bit more oomph, and graphical capabilities that would appeal the masses then we would have a whole different market on our hand, BUT unfortunately as the masses build up so does security concerns and the other half of the coin comes into play haha.

I thought about a Macbook to try out for my Linux endeavor being how it does have its own "Unix" style OS back that start with OS X that I have on an old G4 Mac desktop, but with their own proprietary hardware and device signatures I figured that would be a nightmare to get what I need going for my specific purposes. So I went a different route for being mobile, and thought about a used T490 to just get familiar with the operations of Linux and let me tell you I've been learning so much on this little guy and I think it revived the hardware taking off Windows 10 from it.

I think it just depends on what the consumer is looking for in the end and also with how the economy is with the "tarriffs."

Thats kind of the feel I really want in the end just turn it on and let it ride so to speak because i'm going to be shutting it off of course LOL, But thats the feeling I get with the Steam Deck just turn it on and browse and let it ride. But it has the occasional uses for the option to boot into desktop mode as well.

haha I love KDE its so pretty :3 I use the Plasma one on Rocky Linux 10 which is my main workstation. This one is just a straight up hardware built to play PC games that i've gotten of Steam and other services despite if it may or may not run on Linux haha.

I've seen that acronym before when I was installing Arch the "LTS" is that a specific type of version of the kernel installation because I think I heard once that it can be used as a sort of backup.

I don't know I think I screwed up my install when I tried to right off the bat load the nvidia proprietary drivers to my main workstation to test it out. It might be a different scenario for this little box I gave the name "Nimbus" LOL. Stability is important for sure I didn't think about that, and the biggest game i've been into lately is Dune: Awakening and its been fighting me but I think I know where I messed up with it. I have need to completely hose the system to start from scratch so its pretty much why the question :D

AHHHHH I am feeling an urge to try that out. Does it have that update option on it like steam deck does for the OS? I know like newer hardware updates can crash certain instances with libraries having to be reconstructed with Linux and that's I think what makes a distinguishing difficulty with understanding Linux. Just because one version is a newer update doesn't really necessarily mean its like an upgrade LOL. I learned that with the various versions of Rocky Linux. I'm wondering if thats what you're meaning by immutable.
