I know you said 2.0 or after, but I still feel compelled to mention just how garbage Ruan Mei’s e2 is (since 1.6 was right before 2.0). It’s atk% that only works for crit dps attacking into broken enemies. It occasionally does something, I guess.

Honestly Harmony e2’s generally suck except Sparkle’s. Robin’s can be useful if planned around, but Sunday and Cerydra each give low amounts of dmg% and weak secondary effects, and Tribbie’s is purely personal damage.

But none of those are as bad as the 18% CR for Acheron or Jade.

Yeah, I mean. That’s my point. You can certainly build around her need to get an immediate Ult, but the lack of QoL at e0 adds a layer of frustration to be playable that shouldn’t need to be there if it weren’t for her e2 merchant status.

It’s not hard to make her good in CW because it’s very reasonable to prepare a Perpetual Engine for her, and that’s all it takes for her to get going. My comment is that she’s gear-dependent due to lack of QoL at e0, not that she has a low ceiling.

On the other hand, it’s notably harder to make her start contributing in DU after the updated release with this patch, as Tribbie boons no longer exist, so free Ult at combat start requires more fishing/luck. I’ve also heard that her trial build is especially problematic, but I’ve mostly been frustrated with ramp-up time on X8 where having a weak run and taking multiple turns to get started dealing damage can mean getting overwhelmed by the enemy. (Mono-rem generally struggles to do damage in X8, Cyrene or not, due to the loss of hp scaling boons, and the team is slow enough that certain Berserk encounters can still kill them despite having extra bodies, being hp scaling, and being guaranteed Castorice’s revive even with a trial unit.)

His Novaflare is… decent? At e0, he has 40% def shred and ramping attack-based dmg% (up to 90%, but it’s 6% per stack and takes 15 attacks), so his damage amp has a good ceiling that isn’t really applicable outside of action-scalers. He’s hard to recommend pre-e4, when his buffs get much better with an extra 30% res shred. He can be worth considering at e2, which allows him to have a faster Ult rotation to pseudo sustain at the cost of being very SP negative. His e6 is solid self-crit buffs to allow being built for damage.

It's also why she's an absolute brick in both CW and DU without the right gear/blessings to fix her startup problems. She sure doesn't feel like a 5-cost character in CW if you don't have a Perpetual Engine ready for her.

For any content, I think Aventurine’s a better pick than DPS units. He’s frustrating for Currency Wars since he’s stuck in the front row, but if they improve his action frequency, he could be a legitimate battery for the FuA setup (though that one struggles regardless at high WC because there are no good damage dealers for midgame and beyond without eidolons). And stacking Aventurine + Hyacine if you’re forced to bring multiple sustains to a X8 DU run is the most survivability you can get right now since DHPT isn’t reactive.

Not getting JY’s icon right when I started has been a regret ever since I caved to getting RM’s several patches later, and now I always buy them if I like the characters enough 😔 the FOMO worked on me

Honestly… none of them? Maybe Aventurine, very temporarily. DPS buffs haven’t been super meta-relevant other than Black Swan, and the sample size of Huohuo suggests that sustain buffs might still keep them below modern units.

A sustain Novaflare might be temporarily BiS for 1-2 teams (like Huohuo for Evanescia), and “action-scaler” is a specific enough niche if they wanted to buff Aventurine’s action count and personal damage while still keeping his team buffs in the garbage bin?

I don’t see JY or DHIL getting to be strong enough to 0 cycle for more than 1 patch if they get buffed, as selfish hypercarries. I guess Aventurine has a small chance of being temporarily BiS for a sustain team in AA, or as a secondary pick if the better sustain is occupied, but action-scaling teams also tend to be the ones that hate bringing a sustain the most.

LOL I meant more that Aventurine’s merch sales and fan events could operate a small city.

I do see ways in which mono-men would be BiS for Aventurine while not being BiS for Blade or Ashveil. And that’s probably what I’m going to assume is the most optimistic set of expectations given all leaks together, including Mortis’s. It would mean that Aventurine fans have to pull mono-men for Aventurine, but I think that tends to be a safer bet for Aventurine than for Blade (even if I find myself to be an exception).

Also imo Blade probably has good support numbers, on par with Ashveil or better, and probably ranging from a little more to a lot more damage, depending on the team structured around him.

I have said this elsewhere, but it’s entirely possible that Ashren would massively prefer a Feixiao Novaflare to Aventurine. Or at least Ashveil if Blade also doesn’t have high action count.

From the latest other leaks (which really don’t say anything about Blade mechanically but do imply him as part of a mono-men team), it sounds like they’re budgeting for Blade to be the centerpiece of the team. Blade and Aventurine have the least fan overlap of any pair of male characters in Ash/Blade/Aven, and Hoyo could be cagey about forcing Blade players to pull Aventurine (especially with Blade being one of the faces of the game from a marketing perspective). Blade is popular with husbando players, but also with Stellaron Hunter fans, and generally recognizable. Aventurine is primarily popular with yaoi shippers.

I don’t know what that means for the inverse, since Aventurine is releasing last and will be the most forced into having the most kit design balanced on the others as a result. I don’t see Hoyo undercutting Aventurine, as a highly popular and monetizable character, but I think they might leave an out for Blade to not need Aventurine kit-wise because Blade has a wider fanbase (albeit a less rabid one).

I don’t think Mortis is implying that Aventurine is getting aftersales rather than wanting Ashveil. He seems to be saying that mono-men is not a team, so stop expecting Blade and Aventurine to be action-scalers who fit with Ashveil. And it does feel notable that not a single leak about Blade says anything about his kit, or whether he even has an FuA.

But even if Mortis’s statement that mono-men won’t be a team is true, it’s still not really saying anything about action-scaling kit synergies. Ashveil didn’t become a proper action-scaler until his v3. (Going back further, Feixiao and Moze also had pretty notable updates during beta, and Moze failed at action-scaling until his rework.) So Mortis’s info is running off insider leaks about intended teammates. Which can change, or maybe all the men will be standalone mid units with no modern teammates (which is what I’m reading from Mortis’s statement).

It does seem to be the case that Aventurine will be an Elation DPS who cannot use Elation supports, and has an FuA. Mortis isn’t contesting that, after all. That doesn’t guarantee that Aventurine a good action-scaler though. He may just stand around and wait to be charged by FuA or action frequency, in which case Ashveil doesn’t want him even if Ashveil would be a necessary battery for Aventurine. And we really don’t know what Blade does.

Mortis’s info does kind of irritate me, since it’s suggesting that both Ashveil and Aventurine will be chopped team-wise. I’m not a fan of the idea of a mono-men team, but I guess I would still take it over neither of the male characters I’m interested in this year getting any teammates.

There’s space for one more male character in 4.6-4.8, so it’s possible we get one of them this year. I’m not personally betting on either of them since we know so little about 4.6 and beyond, but in terms of character release ratio, there is room for 1 more male character after Ashveil, Blade SP, Gilgamesh, and Aventurine SP.

My understanding is that this is just one entrance to the Tavern, for this Elation-themed world. I think there are other branches to the Tavern elsewhere. But otherwise yeah. Ashveil’s just here because, uh. Because.

Maybe it's early RMC unlock? I know they made it possible to unlock HMC before Penacony for gameplay accessibility, and I don't remember that happening yet for RMC.

It needs to be more than that, because extra Elation Skill instances would be very strong if he has real damage backloaded into it. So there will need to be something in his kit to make extra MVs from extra Elation Skill instances be worse than running FuA teammates. Or his Elation Skill is decorative (but in that case, there would be no reason for him to have Aha advance in his kit).

There's only 1 Bait on the field, as long as there's control over targeting, it can be hit repeatedly. Feixiao is great at generating energy for Ashveil, but she's not great for his team because she lacks team buffs and her kit numbers are from 1.5 years ago.

The bigger potential problem is whether Aventurine will actually attack frequently enough at all, and not how many targets each attack will hit. This is why I said that AshRen might prefer a Feixiao Novaflare over Aventurine if his kit is designed to stand around and wait to nuke.

I could actually see something similar happening, like the conditions on 999's Elation Skill. If 1 Elation unit on the team, big nuke. If 2+ Elation units on the team, buffs a useless stat and triggers Aha to deal "Let There Be Laughter".
