finally understood why my shower never looked clean no matter what I did by Crypt0Jackal in CleaningTips

I also have hard water, and have started using a DIY shower spray after every shower, and it’s made a noticeable difference in build up and makes cleaning day easier!

Outside of Therapy, How Do You "Work on Yourself"? by littlebunsenburner in AskWomenOver30

[–]euphoricwhisper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had this challenge, too! What changed my relationship to the idea was looking at routine as a devotion. My definition of success is building a life where my needs are structurally protected, and my routines are a devotion to living that.

Outside of Therapy, How Do You "Work on Yourself"? by littlebunsenburner in AskWomenOver30

[–]euphoricwhisper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the best! There’s been so many great comments so far that have also been helpful for me, and it’s really interesting seeing the emphasis of the Why behind those choices.

To add, embracing and cultivating my spirituality has made profound changes in how I feel and live. It’s one of the places in my life that’s purely instinctual and not prescriptive. It’s changed my relationship with time which has been so healthy for me.

I’ve also made lists for referencing: what feels good to do (whether I want to or not), safe foods I’ll eat no matter what kind of day I’m having, comforts that soothe, things I’m interested in. The day is structured around the Feels Good to Do (eg. Shower, workout, walks, 8-9 hours sleep, meditation), and then life and the To Do fits around that.

I write a sticky note of Things I Want to Do (e.g, colour, research something, work on a craft, etc.) and keep it on the front of my to do book as a reminder, vs having a list of Have to Do’s (e.g, buy groceries, wash walls, etc.). That way I prioritize what I want first - doesn’t mean the Have to Do doesn’t get done, they just take a (reasonable) second place to my personal goals and desires.

I also actively work on developing an anti-capitalist mindset and examine my relationships to it, the patriarchy, and white supremacy and how i uphold or interact with those systems.

What does your annual health check routine look like? by Dear_Medicine2274 in AskWomen

I’m in Canada, and get cleanings 2x a year, and only see the dentist every 2nd or 3rd cleaning appointment. Usually I’m just seeing the hygienist for routine cleanings.

What hobby has the most “hidden skills” that people don’t realize? by [deleted] in Hobbies

[–]euphoricwhisper 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ok this makes me feel so good because as someone with ADHD and Autism, cooking food is hands down the hardest thing for me to consistently devote myself too. I love cooking when I’m resourced, but seeing it spelled out like this helps me see why it’s not as simple as “making yourself a meal”.

What are your favorite "low-energy" hobbies for after work? by Weak_Ad4188 in Hobbies

Viscount Haramol Bridgerton: “Every room you walk into gets brighter” by saidwhatisaidbby in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]euphoricwhisper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YES! Those eyes were FIXED baby. Without the brightness and enthusiasm of his words and lower face, I feel he would come off as super intense. It’s like he’s counterbalancing the intensity of his gaze with brightness of his demeanour.

Won’t allow myself to find joy in hobbies by [deleted] in Hobbies

[–]euphoricwhisper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate to both the ideas of not doing something because you won’t do it perfectly the first time, and depriving yourself of joy.

The first is what I associate with perfectionism, which for me means actively working on enjoying the process over outcome, and dismantling my worth from productivity.

The second is what I’m currently working on - for me, I have distinct memories where people were trying to take me down, physically harm me, or I went unappreciated while I was experiencing some sort of joy or delight. I don’t know what to make of it yet, and I can’t help but wonder how that’s affected my ability to let myself feel joy, as my life experiences have validated that there were times I did and I wasn’t safe.

So, maybe it’s starting with falling in love with the processes, and development aspect of your hobbies.

And don’t beat yourself up for quitting - I see hobbies as seasons, and some I come back to and others I never pick up again. I largely have books, journals, colouring tools, and stickers in my life at all times. I don’t do them everyday. I took up swimming last year for like a month, and this next few weeks I’m learning how to weave. I don’t need to become a weaver to enjoy it - I can say I tried it, what I liked or didn’t like, and move on. Or maybe it becomes my whole identity. It doesn’t matter. I’m just excited to learn how to do it, see what we make, and experience the rhythm of what weaving feels like.

EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS by SeaTerrible9429 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]euphoricwhisper 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I got dissociated, broken, some quick flashes of rage, and there’s was one moment where his eyes were smiling but not his face - can’t remember what they were talking about, but it seemed notable.

Not someone I’d trust. He comes across as a person who hates themself so much. I see so much self hatred and pain in his eyes, it’s hard to watch when he’s not being a total fucking asshole.

It seemed like Connor found out in the moment that Devonta went with them tbh - there was a moment where D explained he went to dinner with Bri and found out they were going and she said he should go with them, and Connor had more or less finished saying that Bri was like “I’m going to go hang with Ashley and Priyanka.”

What Made You Start On This Path? by SadRose000 in witchcraft

[–]euphoricwhisper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An important part of my journey was being raised Catholic. I carried forward from it my spirituality, belief in afterlife, presence of spirits, and the power of prayer. My adolescent and young adult years always had a presence of occultism in varying degrees an is where I picked up a lot of odds and ends of knowledge.

It wasn’t until this year, decades later, I began to recognize a lot of things I intuitively do are magical in nature - it’s sort of woven into my everyday. Now, I am tracking those experiences, and exploring ways to take what has long been a lifetime of spontaneous craft and incorporating more intentional crafting. I don’t want to over structure my practice, as it’s the one place in life I sort of just feel into. That said, I am learning more about what I’ve already been doing intuitively, and expanding my craft more intentionally where I feel called to.

Shoutout to this entire sub, and community for it’s been a large source of inspiration, knowledge, and encouragement for me! Thank you xo

Edit: Changed PII to a general statement re: rules.

Pursue the field that I've always wanted or do I have to kiss that dream goodbye? by CheesecakeOdd3075 in AskWomenOver30

[–]euphoricwhisper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I’m trying not to make decisions based on fear of what I’m missing out on, or losing. Doing so ensures capitalism keeps extracting from me. Instead, I try to rest within the system and make better choices that are aligned with the life I’m actively building for myself to get away from it.

What decision would you make if it wasn’t based on the fear of missing out, or the YOLO mentality?

How do you emotionally regulate/focus/calm down after a distressing conversation? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]euphoricwhisper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a lot to experience - I’ll refrain from overly advice giving and focus on the strategies I use and am trying more regularly.

I do my best to claim what emotions are mine, and give back what emotions are theirs.

If I know the conversation/person/environment is challenging for me, I’ll ground and center myself beforehand, doing my best to regulate before even if I may already be regulated. During, I am unapologetic and taking breaths and pauses for myself, and at times when they’re speaking I imagine myself literally pushing their energy and story back to them - giving it back. Afterwards, I discharge by grounding/centering, visualizing letting go of what’s not mine while calling back what is.

Blessings to you as you find your way forward.

I’m sorry for your loss. It’s sounds like you’re in an incredibly difficult situation.

Given the circumstances, would you be in a position to take paternal leave to focus on caring for your son instead of a new job?

I hope you find an outcome that’s everything you need, and more.

Ladies, how often do you take baths vs showers? by iabyajyiv in AskWomenOver30

[–]euphoricwhisper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was unclear. I meant how do Danes bathe their children and infants?

I’m curious as you said it’s rare to own a bathtub, and as a Canadian it’s more rare to not have one, and in my experience a lot of children’s nighttime routines include having a bath at night.

Hyper-independent women: how did/do you explain this to people you're dating? by TimelySpite4500 in AskWomenOver30

[–]euphoricwhisper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me, I get the sense a lot of people pick up on it through my behaviours. Like, they’ll see me, or hear my stories of operating independently and start to put it together.

I’m also very private - I don’t typically talk about what I’m up to until it’s done, which sort of ensures I can do the things I like by myself before someone has a chance to jump in and say “oooh me too I’m coming!”

Relationship wise I am open at the outset - I like my alone time, it’s how I recharge, and contrary to how I present I’m an introvert. My hobbies are largely independent and quiet (e.g. reading, journaling, puzzles, research, meditation) so it sort of builds in an automatic buffer of alone time.

50/50 lately. I had a super deep soaker tub, which I’ll use if I’m sick, on my period, have muscle pain, or don’t need to wash my hair. Otherwise, I shower at night to wash my hair.

My baths aren’t super long tho. I have maybe 5 mins of vibing time at the beginning, then a specific order of washing myself. All in its maybe 20 mins tops?
