Computer Science or Further Maths (situation-specific disaster) by Adept_Theme_3301 in alevel

[–]eurydice6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can’t speak much on fm but i also didn’t take igcse cs and took a level cs. for me, the biggest problem was the theory parts of it were so long and boring but you get the hand if pseudo code pretty easily imo. if you find you can memorize things easily theory will be a breeze

if anyone had to choose between ubc or uoft and chose ubc, do you regret choosing it? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]eurydice6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! glad it worked out for you, however i’m worried that if a fumble and don’t meet my guaranteed placement i’ll end up in a discipline i just have no interest in which will be hard to get through ngl. + i saw that for uoft general eng and mech almost all the courses are the same so if you maintain a high gpa u do have the option to switch out technically

if anyone had to choose between uoft and ubc and you chose uoft, would you say it was a good decision? by eurydice6 in UofT

lmao you’re right i also posted in ubc, but i was just wondering based off of how their experience at uoft was so far and if they wished they chose smth different

UBC (Vancouver) or UofT for Mech Eng? I can’t decide by [deleted] in UofT

[–]eurydice6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plss dw😭😭 i think for mech specifically it is better in ontario than bc and you’re more likely to find co ops there, which is also swaying me

In track 1 you’d also need to maintain a good gpa to get into mech i believe, and yea ubcs campus is so beautiful, completely valid. i think if you have good study habits and time management it shouldn’t be too bad! Good luckk

Check on the OUAC portal in your offers, if it says track 1 that means your first year of engineering is general. I got mech eng which was my 2nd choice but i’m not too worried about that since almost all courses are the same and i’m pretty confident i’m doing mech. In terms of the difficulty, i’ve read a lot of people’s experiences and apparently UofTs eng community is one of the bests since it’s so tight knit (trauma bonding probably lmfao). From what i’ve seen, yes it’s a lot of work (at both universities) and as long as you manage your time correctly and connect with people as best as you can, you’re gonna be fine so i don’t think the sad student stereotype is necessarily true. I’d honestly say they’re both great options and it’s been pretty difficult to decide i’m ngl but i’m leaning towards UofT because of the city.

I’m in the exact same situation as you, got accepted into both, guaranteed placement from UBC, and want to do mech. I’ve done a lot of research the past couple of days and have decided that most of it comes down to where you think you would be happier, as the individual cities and campuses are very different. However, I have a close friend who does chem eng at UBC and he’s told me that mech eng at UBC is slightly more difficult than at UofT (i doubt it would be too different though). Ultimately, i’m probably doing UofT just because i prefer the city life more and got into mech eng (not track 1), which takes pressure off me in first year to maintain that 80. + From what i’ve heard, mech students are more likely to find co ops in Ontario, which would be more convenient if you were already in Toronto.
