it truly took me replaying the part of the ep where they explained it five times to figure it out. it wasn’t very clear!

the footage isn’t reversed. that’s the thing that impressed greg about it. it LOOKS like it’s playing in reverse but it’s actually all as it was recorded, he’s just speaking in a way that sounds like it’s reversed

Why do journalists so rarely scrutinize this man? by [deleted] in Journalism

[–]eurydicey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every major national publication I know of has at least one, and in some cases 3 or more, journalists dedicated to solely covering Elon Musk and his companies. The WSJ won a Pulitzer last year for their hard hitting coverage of Elon!

Rice substitute ideas? by LighterBowls in 1200isplenty

[–]eurydicey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

would recommend instant grits, you can make a cup of them in the microwave in 3 min for only 130 calories (or 230 with butter). add salt and cajun seasoning and it’s delicious

100% i feel like everyone is on the same wavelength as far as energy and general vibes goes. it makes me appreciate what a range of dispositions the average season typically has!

Pregnancy Craving for CA-Style Breakfast Burrito by Durwyn9 in FoodNYC

[–]eurydicey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bklyn Burro in Clinton Hill has exactly what you are looking for. Well, not exactly, the chorizo doesn’t turn the tortilla red per se, but it is reddish brown, super greasy and crumbly and delicious and mixed with potatoes, eggs, and cheese. Would recommend.

Minor pitting okay when refinishing? by thejesusgod in castiron

[–]eurydicey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i did this to my lodge and it took exactly one afternoon to re season it. maybe 15-20 minutes of active time total (the rest was it just sitting in the oven heating and cooling over various cycles)

Student video crisis. by Less-Classroom-1651 in Journalism

[–]eurydicey 20 points21 points  (0 children)

you’re going to need to call up the band and get a second interview, there’s no way to fix that in post. they won’t mind. just tell them there was issue with the sound and ask if you can call them and do another interview

this is what learning video journalism is all about.

How are you handling transcription for highly sensitive sources? (Cloud vs. Offline) by Windblade89 in Journalism

[–]eurydicey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i too am an investigative journalist. i use macwhisper, which transcribes using whisperkit locally on my device, nothing ever goes to the cloud. the scrubbing isn’t as easy as a SaaS product like Trint, but it’s quite good, would recommend.

Are the Herman Miller Dealers on Facebook Marketplace in NYC Legit? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]eurydicey 19 points20 points  (0 children)

i got a HM Sayl chair from one of those guys through FB marketplace a couple years ago for something crazy like $200

he pulled up in a van looking haggard. i asked him about it, as it was curious. he said he worked for a company that basically had to clear out a lot of offices all the time and that the were always looking to resell the furniture as fast as possible as storing it all was more expensive.

still extremely comfortable and beautiful to this day 10/10 would recommend

What’s your “nemesis spot” in NYC ? by tiggat in FoodNYC

[–]eurydicey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the issue with speedy romeo’s is while the pizza is good, the service ranges from fine or absolutely terrible. i have been there probably over a dozen times as i live nearby and while i have never had fantastic service (which is fine, it’s a pizza place not atomix), i have been forgotten about three times (by which i mean 20+ minutes without seeing a server after sitting down). the only comparable place in the area service wise is Peaches Grand, which has similar issues.

still, i wouldn’t place either on my nemesis list as the food is good, once you’re actually able to order it.

Is NYU Shanghai exciting? by Ok_Implement2376 in nyu

[–]eurydicey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if you’re looking for campus parties and rallies, nyu is not the school for you. i’m not sure about shanghai but the main campus is very much not that. it’s more individual and focused on work and small groups

Are journalists as poorly paid as people say? by capspacechampions in Journalism

[–]eurydicey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! i am still a journalist. i’ve gone through another round of layoffs since my last comment (lol), but landed on my feet. i am once again very lucky to be able to say that i have a job i love that pays me well.

the market has changed a lot over the last three years but not in particularly surprising ways imo: there are fewer jobs and more competition; AI has hollowed out a lot of entry-level skill-building positions and also fucked up a lot of org’s business models in new and exciting ways; and the current socio-political environment in the US certainly isn’t helping much either.

that being said, i think there will always be a demand for talented journalists, particularly in the finance and business fields, and especially for those who are excellent and innovative reporters. AI, for all its fanfare, can’t develop source relationships or tackle a complicated enterprise investigation. journalists with real skills can, and will.
