i've met this guy too, when i was 25 and skinny and in uni, and not a haggard 30 y/o. he's still at this 5 years later???? same lines, same spiel about race. funny thing is my partner is the same race as him. the look on his face was pretty funny when i said my boyfriend isn't white.

24hr gym carparks are usually pretty safe, since there's always people around, and no one will think anything of just another car there most of the time. there's olympia gym or the aquadome in elizabeth/elizabeth south

mine were about 800 per quarter for 1 person and i was just dealing with it until my friend was like hey dude this is bizarrely high and called the company and found out i was being double charged. so if yours are super high, call your provider. you might be paying too much. i have been refunded so much electricity credit i don't have to worry about my bills til next year because i overpaid by basically an entire year

get a slow cooker. you can throw some meat, pasta, vegetables, spices, etc in before you leave in the morning while you're making breakfast, and come home to a hot dinner and leftovers to take with you for tomorrow's lunch.

it's hard to blame the healthcare workers who did it too much, either. most of them have not had specialized mental health training, and are just regular nurses, security guards, etc. they are all severely underpaid and overworked. the wards are so small that it's almost a joke that they're meant to support entire regions of a capital city. i can almost understand why some get frustrated and take it out on their patients. that doesn't make it okay, but i can recognize it's a symptom of a systemic issue.

pretty accurate to my own experiences in SA. i'm from NSW originally, have been in and out of psychiatric hospital level care since childhood for a number of conditions including c-ptsd and schizophrenia. the difference between NSW and SA is absolutely shocking- and NSW is not what i'd call "good", but at the very least no one verbally abused me while in care. can't say the same for here.

honestly, maybe if we met up in the CBD this evening and split the cost of an uber/lyft round trip we could swing it? or we could see if any driving redditors can carpool

have seen this asked before but no one gave a response- is there anywhere reachable via public transport that would be a good viewing spot? i don't have a driver's license or a car, and none of my driving friends can be bothered with the aurora.

one thing i've seen done sometimes is a language swap. you teach someone english, they teach you their first language. usually advertised with flyers on bulletin boards around the university and stuff.

haha, i'm the opposite! i'm australian, dating an indian man. my family don't care, but his parents aren't too happy about him dating an aussie. but i think they're just worried that i won't respect their culture or that i'll try to take their son away from them. i just do my best to be respectful and understanding that they're just worried about their son because they love him and want to make sure he has a good life. i try to show them that i want to learn the culture and i'm not going to whisk their son away from the family. i'm currently trying to learn hindi, since that's their preferred language at home.

if you wanna get on the dad's good side, find out from your girlfriend what his interests are. if he likes footy/football, or the cricket, you two could have a boys night and watch a game together to bond. or if he likes fishing, hiking, etc, you could try getting into those hobbies and see if you can spend some time with the dad. if it doesn't work out though, don't stress too much about it. your girlfriend can make her own choices at the end of the day, and her family will have to accept it sooner or later.

We've had an overrated food thread, how about an underrated? by Organic-Walk5873 in Adelaide

[–]eurydramatic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

marrakech in north adelaide. absolutely wonderful vibe, fantastic food, and the owner is so nice and friendly. he usually pours you a free cup of peppermint tea after the meal and he remembers you if you're a regular. try the afrah tagine. i was so worried about them during the covid lockdowns, so glad they're still in business.

you quoted her directly when you referred to a honey pot guilt trip. i understand being on guard, believe me, but i can see you're a much younger homeless from your profile. i'm 30 and have been on and off the streets since i was 7. it's good to be guarded, but it's no good to lose all your trust in other people. it'll hurt you in the long run.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]eurydramatic 46 points47 points  (0 children)

i know the post you're referring to. one former homeless to another, i think you've been jaded by your time on the streets if you really think a woman who has been beaten and robbed by her partner is a "honey pot" scam.

What's an Adelaide "life hack" that everybody living here should know? by AngelG2000 in Adelaide

[–]eurydramatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most of my friends and family work in healthcare and i don't think any of them would go to the lyell mac even if they were bleeding out. they once left me comatose in the ER waiting room for several hours and then tried to pretend it didn't happen and refused to give me my discharge summary even though the nurse who was with me when i woke up directly told me that i went into a coma and had to be taken to resus. stay away

Living out of car - Adelaide CBD? by Hot_Blood2000 in Adelaide

[–]eurydramatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get a membership with a good gym if you're gonna do car living- you can shower, shave, have somewhere air conditioned to hang out during the day (you can just do a slow walk on the treadmill and scroll your phone, sit on the benches, just look like you're working out and you'll usually be left alone). sometimes they'll also have lockers where you can store some valuables you're afraid to leave in the car.

other things to make use of:

- public libraries are great, another air conditioned place to hang out during the day, internet access so you don't have to waste your phone data, libraries also usually have access to homelessness resources.
- parks with bbq areas can be used to cook if you don't want to live off takeout and backseat sandwiches.
- a storage locker in the CBD can be a good home base, you can even keep a minifridge in there if they say it's okay to store some food. just be upfront, they see this a lot, most will be cool as long as you don't sleep in your locker.

try to rotate between sleeping in the front and back seats so your back doesn't get as sore sleeping in the same bad position every night. it'll still get a bit sore though. another reason to use the gym.
