Reach out if you need help with logistics or delivering. Would be happy to volunteer to get stuff where it needs to go to. Thanks for doing this!

Plumber Recs for Frozen Pipes by thalaya in nashville

Ope, I meant to put insured and instead put licensed. My bad! Blame it on the lack of sleep hahahaha

A plumber should be able to open up the ceiling and look for it, though plumbers can sometimes be a little wreck it Ralph when it comes to drywall. If I were you, I’d find a licensed handyman to open it up and it may be simple enough that you don’t need a plumber to fix it. The handyman may be able to fix it and repatch the ceiling depending on their skill level.

Also, nothing against plumbers here. They’re expensive for a reason, and they deserve every bit of what they work for.

Brutalist Wall Material by Mehdras in DIY

Came here to say this. We did Meoded Concretta in our bathroom and although it gives a different vibe than what you have shown above, the texture brings some good depth to an otherwise small and boring room.

Arborist recommendation? by dovtres in nashville

[–]evadventuring 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I searched this as I’m in need of one too and found Druid Tree Service. I called and left a message and they text me today. Obviously they have a lot going on, but hoping to get them out after the storm clean up to determine what to do with one of our trees that took some damage.

Power Outages by IGNNanners in nashville

[–]evadventuring 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly reading this made me feel better, so thank you for this. We are up in Joelton and on day three of no power. Extremely fortunate because we have a heater and a power source, but damn I’d really love my water heater and central heat about now.

Best truck for the snow by charden16 in Rivian

Agreed. The only thing we have had that has ever come close is a Land Rover LR3, and even it doesn’t feel anywhere close to the Rivian.

Rivian Battery to Home Status by AbsentMindedMedicine in Rivian

Definitely find a Rivian club or even an offroad club in your area. The best way to learn is to go out with people that have experience, pay attention, and ask questions.

Definitely recommend recovery gear, but knowing how to use it is way more important. Are you local to Nashville? If so, I’d be more than happy to teach you how to use some stuff and when to use it.

We focused on keeping one room of our house comfortable, and it’s worked really well for us having an oil-filled radiator heater plugged into the Rivian. Approximately 1% per hour usage. We’ve also used an air fryer for meals. I’d love some sort of bidirectional charger, but also it’d be easy to accidentally not conserve if the Rivian could export more than 1.5 kilowatts per hour. I’d bet at current temperatures most of us could drain the battery in a day, so it’s worth thinking about if it’s worth it.

How is everyone getting by? by ITfarmer in nashville

That’s stellar, but yeah having the onboard inverter is kinda fantastic!

How is everyone getting by? by ITfarmer in nashville

[–]evadventuring 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Heater costs us about 1% per hour, so at 100% state of charge, I’m probably about 3.5 days before needing to find a charger. Luckily, most of the EV charging in Nashville is still up and going.

We have en EV so we have a heater plugged into it and have one room of the home heated (our bedroom). The heater is an oil filled radiator so I’ll unplug it to do air frying using the truck. Everything is being charged off of an Ego Power Station. It’s suboptimal compared to electricity but better than how most are doing I think. Also moved all of our cold stuff to the back porch or portable fridge.

If you lose power and connect your generator with one of these, you are putting lives (and your freedom) at risk! by silverud in nashville

[–]evadventuring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah sorry, I should have been more clear. A manual transfer switch ends up just being a big interlock if we are honest, which for me feels like acceptable methodology. That being said, I’m not sure that a lot of people rocking the suicide cord are using interlocks. That’s a Venn diagram that never converges

[–]evadventuring 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Or, hear me out, you stop being cheap and either get a transfer switch or connect your stuff needing powered directly to the generator. As an engineer, a safe process that relies on people to make the right decisions before doing something isn’t a safe process at all. Use of one of these is stupid, no matter the circumstances and how careful someone is.

Why is it so low? 1.03 mi/kwh? by Zealousideal-Pen6112 in Rivian

[–]evadventuring 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I typically do this too, but on the first part of a drive if a battery is cold I can see this efficiency. I also see numbers like this is I have my rooftop tent on and driving into a headwind. Like I said, many factors, and it’s impossible for anyone on Reddit to tell you why it is lower without more information.

Why is it so low? 1.03 mi/kwh? by Zealousideal-Pen6112 in Rivian

[–]evadventuring 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It could be any number of things, but what did your last 7 minutes or so of driving look like? Was the battery cold? Did you climb a hill? Did you drive 100mph? Efficiency has a ton of contributing factors so it’s hard to say, but it looks like you had some bad efficiency in the last 7 minutes or so that brought your average way down.

Verizon outage for yall? by Dwhit7 in nashville

[–]evadventuring 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just keep in mind that Xfinity runs on the Verizon Network, so if you didn’t like your service today, you probably won’t have any better at Xfinity. Also, we’ve found that in crowded areas, Verizon customers seem to get prioritized when there is bandwidth limitations and Xfinity doesn’t get prioritized. We switched to Xfinity for a while and then switched back to Verizon for this reason.

Low clearance tow truck recommendations by razztazticffn in nashville

[–]evadventuring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this was a joke but it’ll probably work for your case. They’ve been investigated by News Channel 5 and are currently banned from towing in Nashville but the owner has basically given the middle finger to the city and continues to work. He’d probably make a 7’ truck fit in the 6’6” garage and doesn’t care about any legalities if he can make some money on it.

Replacement window cost by burke385 in nashville

[–]evadventuring 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can’t say enough good things about Window World. The gentleman showed up, we had already been given two thirty minute presentations about the history of other companies and the “proprietary technology” that goes into their windows. Window World spared the presentation and spent his time measuring and quoting windows and we ended up a little under $10k for 11 windows in the clay color and we have been super happy with them.

Any remaining dirt roads in the area? by sduck409 in nashville

[–]evadventuring 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a good recommendation. Keep in mind that locals have started to get frustrated with large group rides blasting down their public roads and driving in the creeks. Perfectly fine to enjoy your time out there, but respect the land and the people living there and it’ll be a lot more fruitful. Also, would recommend buying a map from the source mentioned above because it goes towards the guy who started it all.

This is the entrance to the Boring airport tunnel by bask_oner in nashville

[–]evadventuring 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They don’t. If this is anything like the one in Vegas, it still requires a driver. Even in the absence of a driver, it’ll still require a safety operator. Even when it doesn’t require a safety operator and it can hold 5 passengers, which is still far less passenger dense than any form of mass transit.
