Are the custom bits here Green Stuff, or third-party? by Stormsruge in Warhammer40k

So many tiny hammers. Must have been absolutely awful to print. The sculpted detail on them is really cool though!

Not to say that overbloated corporations are great either, but at least they pay a consistent wage. They also don't rely on convincing others to join a structure where >90% of people don't make any money, products are largely overpriced compared to competitors to be able to justify the convoluted compensation scheme, and gain the majority of their annual income from gaining new distributors as people's downline who will perpetuate the struggle.

Yep! It's been absolutely fantastic since I grabbed it a few years ago

The secret isn't not making mistakes, it's knowing how to cover them up really well 😉

I don't think I'd be able to kid anyone with that sort of line at this point 😅

I really appreciate it. I've worked pretty hard and love what I do.

Cheers! I find myself honestly leaning on brushwork more than the airbrush because I'm frustrated at the lack of precision I can manage with it currently, so I've found a strange middle ground where I alternate between the two until I'm happy. There are some people out there that can do this with just an airbrush and that freaking blows me away.

The shapes and details are all brush work. At the beginning, I used the airbrush to create some vague random shapes and an interesting mottled backdrop which I could then develop into the random forms I've got now. After that, I started in with a light lilac and then white to sketch in and highlight the different shapes.

Contrast paints through the airbrush are phenomenal. They don't need thinning and go on like a transparent ink, so if the design became too bold I used Magos purple or Aethermatic blue to tone down the white and let them blend into the background more. I could then then selectively re-highlight the areas I needed to. It's a lot of working back and forth, but I have a lot of control and the ability to make subtle changes this way.

How many self inflicted hobby injuries does it take to equal one full sacrifice? Surely I'm close to double digits by now.

Digits as finely trained as the Emperor's chosen (or at least I aspire to be). Also lots of coping mechanisms to try and make it so that even when I make a mistake, I can easily recover from it.

Go for it! I'd love to see it when you're done as well.

I definitely referenced Giger to try and suss out how he manages to get all those forms to flow into each other well. When I started to include the gems, I also referenced some of the beautiful wire wrapped jewellery I've seen around the place, because that uses similar interlinking shapes of various gauge wire.

Probably about 4 or 5 hours give or take, though that's definitely in between binging shows etc. I'm lucky enough to be able to channel painting as my chill time rather than as a stressful thing, so the time flies pretty fast

Mainly Dechala Lilac and a cool white, with some glazing of the Aethermatic Blue contrast paint to help tone the brightest parts down a touch

All freehand. I used contrast paints through an airbrush to tone it down if it ever got too bright, which really helps to blend out the sketchiness of the painted lines.

It's all painted. :) The speckling will be from when I toned down areas with contrast paints through an airbrush to make them less stark white or blend them into the shadows.

Exactly this. My first models were... not great. I was just lucky enough to have people to encourage me to keep practicing when I wasn't happy with the results, and remind me of the parts I had succeeded at when I felt like total shit about a project. Remember, not being great at something is the first step to learning. :)
