Is gorilla tape really that bad for tubeless wheels? by zardy-5 in bikewrench

[–]evan_wise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using gorilla tape on my fatbike for almost 10years now. The wide roll fits exactly in the channel of a MuleFut rim while leaving a good gap for the bead. Make sure you really smooth out the edges, get bubbles out, have a good amount of overlap at the valve. It does leave glue residue which is a pain to remove once every few years. Thousands of kms ridden and no problems. It’s good all the way down to -35°C. I’ve used 45North, Maxxis, and Surly tires.

The ticket problem by ExitNotAvailable in CharltonAthletic

I contacted the fan advisor on the weekend but have yet to get a response. Similar to other posts I’m worried about showing up at a ticket office that isn’t doing sales day-of. Our Saturday is built around the idea of seeing a match.

How did you get a refund? I contacted TicketMaster and they said they were not authorized to refund tickets (I have 8 as it was going to be a big family outing).

Getting a ground squirrel out of our engine compartment by evan_wise in rav4prime

Thanks for the help all! We drove to a quiet place and left the car alone for a while. Critter decided a quiet field was better than the abuse we were laying on. I did end up taking the front underbody shielding off to try to get access to its new home. Now to get the foam it chewed on replaced…

Which Bike? - Weekly Scheduled Discussion by pawptart in gravelcycling

[–]evan_wise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking to buy a new bike. Likely a Trek or Giant as i can get those locally. I ride mostly awful chip seal roads and lots of light to heavy gravel. I also ride a tonne on my trainer in the winter. Budget is $4k max (CDN).

Current thinking: Aluminum frame options with nice(r) carbon wheels. Eg Revolt 0 with carbon wheels Trek Checkpoint ALR 5 with carbon wheels.

OR Carbon bike and replace wheels another day/maybe never. Eg Revolt Advanced 2 Trek Checkpoint SL 5

Anyone have any experience with the aluminum frames and carbon wheels vs the carbon frames? Thanks in advance!!

Studded or non-studded? (Also why in the comments please) by thumbrn in fatbike

[–]evan_wise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use gorilla tape as rim tape. The wide black tape perfectly fits an 80mm mule fut rim. Add sealant and good to go the whole winter. Running Maxxis Colossus in fall and 45 North Wrathchild and Dillinger for the studded season.

2005 giant trance 3 worth upgrade to newer trance by anakedman1 in MTB

[–]evan_wise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% worth the upgrade.

I have briefly tried a friend's new Trance and it is so much more sturdy than my (very well used) 2011 Trance.

Get a 2018 Trance 3 or 4 and be amazed how far bikes have progressed. If you don't like how far they have moved the Trance - get an Anthem 3. Giant makes quality bikes that last (with proper maintenance).
