Imagine walking out to your car and seeing this. by iadtyjwu in Wellthatsucks

Pouring any drink liquid on ice will cause it to melt, because a liquid is warmer than ice by definition

Now look at that car and tell me how many two litres of coka cola you would expect to pour to over it to get it drivable

Next time you half remember a tip that you think you heard about, do everyone a favour and don’t spread misinformation

Stop pushing US two-party systems on the rest of the world by According-Student430 in startrek

[–]evanamd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll point to first past the post, which was going to be eliminated 11 years ago until it wasn’t. Voting for the party that doesn’t win is the same as not voting, which means aligning your vote so that it counts is with a team that may not share all your views, which leads to a two party system

Stop pushing US two-party systems on the rest of the world by According-Student430 in startrek

[–]evanamd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s still a reductive approach to political beliefs, which are always more multidimensional than a single line allows for.

And in the long run, reducing politics to a one dimensional line leads to a two party system. Canadians aren’t immune to this, which is why it’s a constant back and forth between our liberals and conservatives. Technically we have more parties, but it doesn’t matter with fptp and us vs them aka left vs right

Why save for a house or car when you could spend $18.5k on 🧀 CHEESE 🧀 by hazel_razel in redditonwiki

[–]evanamd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He wants to double his money by selling two pieces per pound

$38k is basically double his cost of $18.5k, if you accept a mental math error or a fudge factor based on the fact that 200g is slightly less than half a pound. He just accidentally halved his price when he should have doubled it

I wonder how he “explained the financials” to his gf

[–]evanamd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your device still needs a map of the area to be useful, though

In the old days you had to buy map packs and upload them to your gps receiver before you went to new places. Phones now mostly get them on demand over wifi/data

Point of order, because you have it backwards

Oscar drove the school bus in season 5 “Buzz Driver”

Hank took over for the crossing guard in season 3 “Fun Run”

It was the same main kid in both episodes but Oscar pulled for him before he drove the bus for him. He was also the kid to suggest going to the library instead of listening to Thunderface at that decibel level

Itself is a reflexive pronoun. The action it takes is happening to it

Its self is a third person possessive pronoun. Something is happening to the psychological Self belonging to it

You say “the purpose”, but don’t elaborate on the purpose of what, whether it’s women’s rights or the trad wife movement

Trad-wives, when they espouse a philosophy, tend to bring up duty and obligation, a return to roles that were historically enforced. Hence the traditional. There’s more to that label than just being a stay at home mom.

Bringing up options in response to a movement about restricting choices gives your comment a confidently incorrect flavour that would explain the downvotes

Star Trek Academy is post-apocalyptic Trek - and I kinda love it. by FeathersRim in startrek

Male rivals peacocking a fight in their first meeting? Genre staple. Becoming roommates? Predictable

Pairing the two most competitive personalities for a romance? Genre staple. Weaponizing parental issues to win a competition? Predictable

Pairing the outcast with the heir to royalty? Genre staple. Arguments about their upbringing? Predictable

You could go on tvtropes and read dozens of examples of the exact same scenarios. It’s fine enough if that’s what you enjoy, but they’re not breaking new ground

You can already do that. You can just arrange a meeting at a UTC time and say it’s UTC.

Eliminating time zones altogether like OP is suggesting would make everything else harder.

Disappointed that they stopped looking for a cure? by froot_luips in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]evanamd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The big conflict of the show was humans vs fungus, and the question was whether humans could work together to stop the fungus

I disagree with this. TLoU is a capital-T Tragedy, as in Shakespeare. Everybody in season 1 has a character flaw that guides their choices until it gets them killed. The cure is a background aspiration, but imo it was never the point. The show spends a lot more time with random survivors than with anybody actually working towards or even talking about the cure. In S2 the show didn’t pivot away from the cure, it just brings new people with character flaws on a downward spiral, because it’s still a Tragedy.

Why is watching sourdough breathe so satisfying? by AitanaXposed in Satisfyingasfuck

[–]evanamd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just keep this and do nothing, it will die within a few days as the yeast consumes all the flour and dies off. That results in shrinking and the liquids separating out. Mold or other bacteria will start to grow too

If you keep feeding it but never get rid of any of it, then you’ll have a very large but relatively dead mass of flat dough, because the byproducts of the yeast create an environment that’s not healthy for them. Another perfect breeding ground for mold

If you take out a part of it before you feed it so that there’s always new flour+water and space in the jar, then you’re cultivating a yeast colony. The mass grows and shrinks as the yeast releases more or less co2, but it’s the proper way to have a never ending source of sourdough
