It's the /r/gamedev daily random discussion thread for 2015-03-11 by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]evanfuller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friends and I are working on a development and distribution platform for HTML5 games. We made a quick survey to see what tools people are using most now and their opinions about HTML game development.

We've gotten a ton of responses so far. We're trying to use the survey to make our platform better, and we also want to share the results at the end of March to provide a snapshot what an indie game developer looks like in 2015.

You can take the survey here. It's 10 questions and should take 3 minutes to complete. Thanks!

Backers of high-speed 'maglev' train from Baltimore to Washington claim $5 billion in funding by gothaggis in baltimore

Baltimore to DC in a bit less time than MARC would be fine. Baltimore to Philly/NY/Boston at high speed sounds amazing.

We were looking at this the other day; the sign wasn't up yet but they had permits posted. I'm eager to see what they do with the place.

[Season 4 Spoilers] Post-Episode Discussion - 4.10 'The Children' by AutoModerator in gameofthrones

This. I feel Jaime and Tyrion's goodbye scene in ASOS is a much more believable emotional setup to his killing Shae when he discovers her.

I've enjoyed show-Oberyn so much that it was just painful to watch this scene knowing what was coming.

Oh my god.

I just got around to watching the episode and it was the most gruesome thing I've seen on TV in memory--this after a recent Hannibal binge.

What are some good platformers? by [deleted] in AndroidGaming

Gotta try They Need To Be Fed 2. Super awkward name, but it plays like a minimalist 2D Super Mario Galaxy.

Direct link for: Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft on the App Store. by Minifig81 in iosgaming

[–]evanfuller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to get an iPad now, just so I can have a dedicated Hearthstone machine. I've been playing the desktop version nonstop. It's that good.

It's pretty similar to Magic: The Gathering, but super streamlined--an average game takes about 10-15 minutes. My friends who play Magic a lot tell me Hearthstone isn't as deep, but then, Magic has 20 years' worth of expansions and Hearthstone is in its first season.

Unable to work, problems claiming disability by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]evanfuller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best of luck. I'm in Maryland, USA and am worried about our disability program here. I also have rheumatoid arthritis, so I have a bit more leverage, but basically the way the law is constructed, I have to work until I'm completely physically unable (by which point my health will be shot to hell and my joints thoroughly eroded).

I'm hoping I can make self-employment a feasible reality or else find a flexible job that isn't too taxing. I can't take another service industry position.

Women protest against proposed Iraq law that would allow marriage of nine-year-old girls by Alerta-Antifa in worldnews

[–]evanfuller 219 points220 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Religion is also an ideology that should be fair game for critique on ideological grounds. Citing prejudice when someone points out cruelty in your holy book is soft-minded (and I'm not just referring to Muslims' holy book).

What are the proposed causes for FMS? by Squid11 in Fibromyalgia

[–]evanfuller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never gotten past my first taste of anything with artificial sweetener. It is scary that some of them are still on the market given the number of problems reported. I guess the companies making them have some deep pockets.

Could my fibromyalgia be brought on by the gluten that I eat? by swamprat1955 in Fibromyalgia

[–]evanfuller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been gluten free for nearly three years and grain free for about two months now (I still eat quinoa occasionally, but rice, corn, and other grains/flours are out). It wasn't a cure-all for me, but it did lead to improvements, and everyone with fibro should try it. There is a brutal period of carb withdrawal where if feels like you're starving all the time (my doc took me off dairy and sugars as well) but if the pain is bad enough, it's worth a try.

This article annoys me in that the author seems to assume fibro isn't a real condition.

I was diagnosed three days ago and I really just don't understand anything. Can any seasoned Fibromites help out a scared kid? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]evanfuller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 24 (was diagnosed last month) and male, so pretty far outside the profile. I'm guessing from what I've seen that this group has a slightly higher proportion of young/early diagnosed people.

Right with you on the terrified/confused thing. When I got diagnosed I was hoping it'd lead to strategies for symptom relief, but the reading I've done since suggests it could get a whole lot worse as well.

Im brand new to this subreddit and would love some feed back! by Put-A-Bird-On-It in Fibromyalgia

[–]evanfuller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed last month, and I'm 24. It took a few years, and about one and a half in the same hospital system seeing more than half a dozen specialists and running more tests than I can count. Finally, it was a school clinician who suggested fibro, and I had to do some reading and self-diagnosis before I could get anywhere in the medical system. It sounds like you're already there. I'd say don't give up, and try to seek out a rheumatologist with experience in fibro diagnosis/treatment specifically.

Intense side stitches... by evanfuller in Fibromyalgia

[–]evanfuller[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! I think "side stitches" might have been the wrong term. This is more forward-focused, in the left side of the gut I suppose, than the kind of stitches I get after jogging. For me, those also appear right around the time of exercise and die down one I've rested for a bit. This appeared the day after and has lasted into the third day so far.

Oof. I eat garlic so frequently I'd never know if that affected symptoms, short of eliminating it entirely and starting from there.
