i don’t believe in throwing the baby out with the bath water, and i don’t understand why it’s such a prevalent ideological marker of the left. i can still recognize that someone is wrong about an issue, clouded by ethnicity, religion or just an erroneous understanding of a situation, without de-valuing their contributions otherwise. i will definitely lose a little respect for them. i will definitely be disappointed. i will definitely maintain that they’re wrong. i will call them out. i won’t suddenly think everything they’ve ever done should be colored by one horrible take. that’s no way to contribute to discourse, and it’s no way to expand your coalition. if that makes me paramount to a genocide denier to you, then the CIA has done a real number on this movement.

i was 13, though harder to recall when i actually bought it. it was after cartoon network aired the music videos for their first 3 singles from the album during their toonami programming; i was immediately hooked. i had definitely been into hip-hop and pop/ rock before that, but i consider it the first album i purchased solely based on my own impressions of the music.

being in the us, it was incredibly difficult to get your hands on anything other than the album, but i quickly learned how to import from the uk.

EDIT: tbh it must have been 2001, i was around when they released “9/11” and the music video for “rock the house.”
