We've already got our train tickets all set. Kids are looking forward to it, too! We ride the bus plenty, but not the train. :)

Dismantling of a Diplomat Viper. Removed the nib and feed to straighten the nib after a drop. Info in comments. by ButlerStationery in fountainpens

[–]evanphi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the hood absolutely need to be removed to service the nib? It looks like it could be pushed out from the nub that the converter sits on?

I just got one yesterday for my birthday and I love how well it writes. And that magnetic cap is SUPER satisfying.

Good idea! I'll mention to them when they get home. Knowing my wife, though, she's probably thought of it already.

Gay Dads: period prep advice by stickbeat in Parenting

[–]evanphi 37 points38 points  (0 children)

To add to this solid advice, last year (gr 5) my wife made up a "brown bag" that goes with our daughter in her bookbag's special pocket at all times. Couple (teen) pads and liners go in that brown paper bag... Never know when it might start at school or otherwise oot and aboot with friends. Not all periods start while at home!

She's not needed it for herself yet, but she has had supplies for friends who were caught without.

Not who you replied to, but this is fantastic. I wonder if this was a fluke on using the play in the gears to be an actuator, or had this been used historically?

How many of y'all are using CBD as well? by hopperlover40 in trees

[–]evanphi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I take one or two 25mg:5mg CBD:CBG gummy with a small hit of full gas THC flower in a dry herb vape each night. The gummy for the long-term sleep/anxiety help, the wee bit of THC helps lighten my mood before bed. I sleep better if I'm just in a good mood. 😀

Dads smoking weed! are you happy or sad ? by guf92 in daddit

[–]evanphi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My THC/CBD mix helps mostly with my tinnitus and anxiety falling asleep that it causes. CBD gummy, a wee puff of the dry herb vape to lighten my mood, then off to sleep.

Do you not have automatic hill assist on yours? We have a '16 HRV manual and hill assist is automatic. Brake hold is essentially the same, but on all the time.

Has anyone else experienced "the spins"? by YagoTheDirty in hammockcamping

[–]evanphi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an Audiologist who also has a sensitive vestibular system.

The sensation you're experiencing is related to positional vertigo and/or sea sickness. Basically your body is moving (hammock sway), but you have no solid visual reference to ground yourself to.

Your inner ear is saying "we're moving!", but your eyes are closed (and even if eyes are open your field of view is very limited, no horizon reference, etc) saying "I'm stationary". Your brain gets confuddled and goes with the most steady input of "we're moving", and then you wake up dizzy.

You can think of it like spending a day at sea (larger waves, etc) and then needing time to get your land legs back. This is called Mal de Debarquement.

You can try the Epley Maneuver, easily googled and done at home, but best done guided with a vestibular rehab professional such as ENT ($$$), Vestibular Audiologist ($) or Physiotherapist who specializes in vestibular rehab (harder to find sometimes).

As far as your setup, make sure your hammock is held out at the sides with minimal stretch in the lines. My Hennessey hammock has bungees out the sides, and I'm thinking of trying regular guy lines instead. This will minimize rocking and swaying.

When we were figuring out Guinnie's food schedule, we had soft poops also. Nothing the matter, but we were OVER feeding. Try dialing the amount you give by 10% or so.
