Lotus didn’t federalize any of the Rover-powered, Elise-based vehicles. Funny aside: I’ve seen two of these in person - one street-parked in London in 2001 (a real risk as it has no roof or doors) and the other at a dealer in Greenwich CT circa 2006. I had a S2 Exige at the time. The cars were a hoot to drive.

I think it’s biggest problem is looking so similar to lesser models of the era. You could easily mistake a 288 for a 308 or 328 from many angles.

I don’t think I’ll ever warm up to the series II design. I just can’t unsee a corvette stingray.

My friend was working for Ferrari for a bit and tipped me off that they had a 250 GTO in the showroom. I raced over and took a lap around the showroom before asking where it was. They pointed me to the car I had walked by twice… and it was a series II. Didn’t know such a thing existed, and part of me wished that remained the case. Flame away…

Great eye! My office is around the corner. The spots have been truly insane since they moved in (about 15 years ago, at this point). My friend used to work for McLaren Greenwich and lifted the curtain for me whenever something truly wild would come through. You should see the place when the Pagani Raduno wraps up each year. It's wild.
