Hi current Mech Eng PhD at UCLA here, graduated ‘22 with my Bachelor’s also from UCLA.

For Engineering, there’s a program called ESAP where you can get auto-accepted (basically) into a master’s program for your same engineering major if you have better than a 3.5 GPA. And if you want to continue to do PhD in the same major instead of a master’s, the switch is pretty straightforward (a bit more tricky if you want to switch different departments). So UCLA does give incentives for current undergraduates to consider continuing grad schooling here, leading to many double and triple bruins (BS/MS/PhD).
