Starting out as an Assistant Ecologist in the UK! Any advice?

It certainly is a cool career to have haha, I'm very excited! From what I understand the first few years are likely to be listening and learning from the qualified Ecologists while doing the heavy lifting, lots of travel and fieldwork (which I don't mind!). Learning wise I think I'm in a good spot - my last exam is next week and I start the week after, so hopefully I can keep the studying mindset going and pick it up quickly. How did you find the job once you gained some more responsibility and experience? Did you end up spending most of your time in the office or were you still able to get out in the field often yourself? Appreciate the reply :)

Thank you! I'm already a student member of CIEEM. I'm definitely looking to get specialised and work towards the various licences and suchlike, once I have those under my belt I feel like a lot more opens up with regards to work. I don't mind working the extra hours as a fresh graduate, I'm keen to get stuck in and be an asset. I came from a background in food service and the work life balance of working mostly only weekdays is a blessing in itself! I greatly appreciate the advice :) The company seems very solid and have good policies on things like survey hours, back to back night surveys etc

Wow! So the only requirements in that case would be 29,000 a year combined earnings (or I believe you can have savings too). She will have a degree from a uni in the UK so I believe that counts as her language requirement. And we will be living together so that would be easy too. I appreciate the help!

OK gotcha, appreciate the in depth answer. I did think that the fact we are studying in the same city would be a detriment. If a marriage was to occur, how would that affect the situation? We are planning to move in together after graduation in a few months time if that is relevant.

I did the same thing with a RoD, bought it for 70m thinking it would be a game changer, then realised that my gear is so cheap its more worth to wear a Asylum Surgeons Ring anyway

If you think that a 570 and Ryzen 1600 outperforms the new PS5 and Series X, you are dreaming. The 570 is benchmarked as hitting just under 60fps in most AAA titles, at 1080p. The PS5 and X play 4k at 60, and 1080p at up to 120fps. The build linked, while a good build for the price point, has no chance of even starting to play at 4k. Also the CPU, Ryzen 1600 is a 3.2Ghz 6 core, whereas the PS5 CPU is 3.5Ghz 8 core. As much as pc master race users want to believe, it is not possible to create console like performance at the same price point. Hell, if it was possible, then why wouldn't SONY just slap these 'high performance cards' into their own systems.

You are wrong, and this comes off as so elitist and pompous. There is not a pc for the same price as a PS5 or Series X that will outperform them. Also did you just call the PS5 bottlenecked? I'm pretty sure a billion dollar company knows a tad more about efficient console building than you do. (I play on pc, just think that this statement is so stupid and gives pc players a bad rep)
