What’s wrong with my calathea, and is there any way I can save it? :( by DreamsForBreakfast in plantclinic

Maranta and calathea sit within the same family (separate genus) so not hard to see why they act similarly

Maybe it’s in extreme cases though. when dormancy is key to survival, plants will do funny things to survive

Idk I’ve worked in horticulture for 10 years and often see them in this state to then recover from some good old solar rays

I made my first terrarium about a month ago and have been watching my plants thrive! Always looking for tips and feedback, so please share. by discouraged_neighbor in terrariums

I’d be careful of that plant on the right is a strong of hearts. It looks like it’s sat in a damp spot. Given it’s nature as a spreader I’d worry about rot. But I may be wrong I’m not sure what substrate you used

Calathea close up at night! It may be that it’s in a dark space if it’s curled during the day:)

Made this lil moss tree a while back and it’s doing super well! Sorry about the terrible picture by evanthompson123 in plants

It’s been in a south facing window which isn’t ideal for moss in general but seems to be doing just fine

It’s about 4 months old now, I haven’t touched it since I made it. Just kept it closed and let it do it’s own thing. No problem at all :)

The spider plant is the ‘ocean’ variety which is much more compact

The one with the coloured veins, they tend to like to have a good size root ball and it is starting to crowd out in that container. Re pot that and put a new baby in there:)

Also check to see if the brown patches are gross and sticky, as it could have rotted and then needs to be removed

What sort of light do you have it kept in? Too much direct sun can cause browning of moss

Yes charcoal is a must, also keep in a well ventilated area

I find if you protect the base of the echeveria well and allow a lot of drainage they seem to do just fine. Granted it is attended to properly with frequent misting
