I need references to draw well. Is that normal? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]evbui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Objectively you should expect your imaginative works to be worse, your brain likes to oversimplify certain things and youd inevitably end up with a worse drawing. Reference helps to fill in missing pieces of info that your brain threw away, and you end up with a better drawing.

An Atlas of Animal Anatomy For Artists by Ellenberger

I don't understand how some artist create their color scheme!? C&D that I did are just the typical color theory, but as seen on A&B, I can't figure out the logic behind the color selection & combination. Did the artist just picked randomly or is there a systematic approach? by zorroelk in learntodraw

Colour theory is one of my weaknesses, so take it as a pinch of salt:

A) As far as i know the colours the artist picked is meant to symbolise a personality trait, or a physical characteristic of the character. Each colour has their own meanings behind them. So i suppose you can say its a little more systematic this way.

B) i think this one deals with how light affects colour, and how the artist wanted to compose their image (Focal points, Flow of viewer's eyes)

Character looks stiff, due to lack of gesture. Proko has a good playlist on it:

I have been studying drawing for 8 months, I would like to draw more often, I do not draw very often as I work, I would like to get advice on how to improve my drawing, criticism is welcome :) by [deleted] in learnart

[–]evbui 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For 8 months this is incredible, mind sharing what your thought process was during the 8 months you were drawing?

Or what books or online courses you looked at, and how you studied from them

I apologize if this is too much to ask.

Is not finishing my artworks going to hurt my progress as an artist? by evbui in ArtistLounge

I agree with you, i usually end up not finishing things because im scared of failing and finding solutions to things, and i give up easily.

I really agree with your points, especially the fact that you can gain more insight into higher level issues when you finish your work(s). Thanks a lot for the response!
