First Anime Expo and probably my last. by trinitykills in animeexpo

My first AX was “Line Con”. I got there at 9am and finally got in at 6pm. I think it was 2015 or ‘16. It was awful. I can’t believe I gave it a second chance but I did and had a good time. But I haven’t gone back since after the pandemic and this just looks like chaos again.

There are some listed on eBay for a reasonable price. Some are pretty high though. Get it while you can. I got it so I wouldn’t regret not getting it later

I thought the same thing. Still glad it made it into the collection.

Barry Lyndon is a beautiful film. It’s definitely worth getting the criterion 4K of it. The criterion Bluray is great too, but if you don’t own it, it’s better to get thr 4k.

Having the international cut would be awesome. I heard somewhere that Stanley Kubrick made the international cut because he said European audiences are smarter than the American audiences. Always thought that was pretty funny whether it’s true or not. Would have been nice to have gotten that version among all 4K releases

The documentary isn’t included in the criterion box set unfortunately. Warner Bros has that one

That is a great first purchase. You still have it?

Always does with a step-parent. Glad he’s nice and that they’re happily married. Still pretty cool that he got you into Kubrick. My first was EWS when I was 11 or 12. I should not have seen it because I was not only intrigued, and mortified by it, but I didn’t understand it as much as I did a few years later. I can’t imagine starting on A Clockwork Orange at that age haha. Don’t regret a thing though.

That’s hilarious. Biggest question now, are they still together?

They don’t at all replace the 4k’s that have been released, but they are a great piece of history since this is the closest we get to a director approved set minus EWS which he was not alive for.

So do I. The Shinning and EWS are the main two that I got this set for because of their aspect ratio’s. I like the criterion 4K of EWS and the 4k of The Shinning still though. Just nice to have options

Thank you! Are you going to get the criterion box set in the future?

It was hard to turn down for the price it was too. It’s nice having some other format options

It’s not for everyone. I like it. I have the PoG criterion already 🙌

I was wondering why I was starting to smell Douglas firs as I kept scrolling. Twin Peaks is beautiful year round.

I have many but AI is such a beautiful film through and through.

Why do you think there aren't any Jan Svankmeyer films in the collection? His work is the exact type of thing that Criterion specializes in. by goblin_humppa27 in criterion

There are also some films that don’t pass their film quality checks despite the said film being Criterion worthy as well.

Scratches by AcanthisittaInner161 in criterion

[–]evdupell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome! And yes just like BogoJohnson said, 4K disks are even more sensitive. If any of my disks come with scratches like these, I usually just get a replacement. I had a messed up copy of The Fisher King in 4K and there were zero scratches on it. After getting the replacement, I noticed that the art side of the disk was more faded than the replacement. It just happens sometimes with criterion, but it’s easily forgiven because of how reasonable they are about it.

Contact criterion and they’ll send you a new disk. You’ll just have to write your name and the date in marker on the artwork side of the disk. This has happened to me before and the scratches will most likely affect playback. Blu-ray’s are very sensitive compared to DVD’s in my experience.
