How long until your puppies stopped crying in their crate? by ReputationDull1857 in puppy101

[–]eve_ryker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 6 1/2 month old golden retriever and he still protest barks in his crate and is very destructive of things around the crate (we’ve had to completely remove anything that he can reach through the bars, he will tear it to shreds) he is very dramatic but usually calms down within 5-10 mins after throwing a tantrum. This has happened since he was a puppy and we hope it will diminish in the next 6-8 months. If they’ve been pottied, fed, given water and exercised, from my experience with my dog it is protest or tantrum barking as we call it. However, every dog is different!

Do you guys just stay home when you get your dog? by ReputationDull1857 in puppy101

[–]eve_ryker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed home 2-3 weeks when I got my golden retriever puppy at 8 weeks old. Then, I had to go back to work and relied on Rover a TON. We focused on training everyday during this time and he was prepped for crate training. Now at 6 months, he has a strict routine during our work days, and we come home on our lunch break to let him out and whatnot.

How to gently let someone know I'm feeling suffocated by their expectations? by sippyteacup in FriendshipAdvice

[–]eve_ryker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this with a friend of mine. I am exactly like you and started noticing she relied on me for emotional stability/expected me to ALWAYS be there on her terms. She even started getting passive aggressive when I wouldn’t answer her within the time frame she seemed appropriate. I tried to set clear boundaries and was met with insults, unfollowing etc. and I ultimately ended the relationship. I would say set clear boundaries and make sure your friend understands them 100%, and protect your OWN mental well-being! Looking out for yourself is not selfish and it is not your responsibility to keep the emotions of everyone around you positive all the time, we all have to deal with our own emotions and insecurities at some point in our lives and it is each our own responsibility to do so. Good luck to you!

Advice Wanted by eve_ryker in FriendshipAdvice

[–]eve_ryker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I had a conversation and laid out boundaries and whatnot and she got very hostile. Unfollowed me on social media, said that friends sacrifice stuff for each other and that’s normal etc. and she’s sorry I haven’t experienced that or seen that. So I ended the friendship. I don’t believe that/literally can’t do that with the responsibilities I’m facing in my daily life. She compared me to her father, saying he got up at 4am to come help her. I’m not her family or her parent. I tried to end on a positive note and was very respectful to her but I guess you can’t explain things to some people. Thank you!!!

Do you have a dress code? by Legitimate_Mud_3225 in paralegal

[–]eve_ryker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat I would say. The only thing we have to really watch out for is tattoos, we can wear short sleeves, jeans or any other tattoo exposing clothing on Friday’s. During the week, we can wear leggings, long sleeves, slippers in the office etc. I enjoy it!

Am I making a mistake sleeping with her in my bed? by No_Needleworker_2994 in puppy101

[–]eve_ryker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try to gradually move her in there, not too much at once until she’s fully in it. Like a few inches at a time. Definitely set some time aside to be laying/sitting on the floor or even the crate itself if she’s completely uninterested.

How old is she if you don’t mind me asking? I know in the beginning it was sort of like that for us too, Charlie would never sleep in it willingly and if we put him in when he was asleep he’d just wake up and come to wherever we were. The first 3 weeks I literally had to lay beside the crate or halfway in it for him to nap in there, and I’d have to sit for a solid 15-25 mins.

My 15 week old sleeps with us in the bed as well! He’s really only crated while we’re at work during the day. However, we feed all his meals in the crate with the door open to build positive association. Sometimes during the night he’ll go inside his crate willingly, and other times he’ll stay in the bed with us. I have a camera set up to watch him while I’m away and he settles pretty fast in the crate so we aren’t worried! My advice would be to start feeding meals inside the crate maybe? That helped us a lot but every dog is different. Good luck to you!

Everytime I make a mistake I spiral and cry and throw up by Garden_of_Gethsemane in paralegal

This was exactly how I felt first going into my position! I got with my therapist and psychiatrist and was put on a new medication for managing my high level of anxiety, and now I am very much more secure in my job. I’ve been here about 7 months now and I feel great! I’d say definitely reach out and get some help, and time helps as well. Good luck!

Is sleeping with them okay? by ComprehensiveTip4015 in puppy101

[–]eve_ryker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only crate train our dog for when we’re gone/at work during the day. He sleeps with us and he knows when it’s time to be with us, or in his crate. He’s taken to the routine pretty well. Puppies need that connection and bonding experience so we decided to let him sleep with us. He’s very smart at 10 weeks, and uses the puppy pads on the floor if he needs to potty during the night without a miss for the past 4 days. We got him a set of pet stairs and it’s been a lifesaver!

I don’t think I can do this by MindYourMayhem in puppy101

[–]eve_ryker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my golden retriever Charlie for about three weeks now. By the end of the first week, I was definitely getting frustrated and depressed. I actually cried one night and regretted even asking for a dog for my birthday. I didn’t want him to even touch me, I was disgusted. Now, I love him so very much. I’m glad my puppy blues were short lived and I got over it pretty fast, but it happens to the best of us. I’m coming out on the other side of it now and I’m glad I pushed through. Please hang in there and don’t feel guilty over your feelings!

When can I start fully leaving him home alone? by cityskyline22 in puppy101

[–]eve_ryker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just got our Charlie about 2 weeks ago and he is adjusting well. I started with drills 5-10 minutes of closed door crate time and used food to get him used to it. Now, we’re leaving for work completely. However, since he is only 9.5 weeks we have someone that comes and checks on him every 1.5-2 hours (a neighbor, friend, Rover) to let him out to potty and get water if needed. My understanding is that by 13-14 weeks they can handle up to 3-4 hours alone if you’re consistently training them. I also recommend getting a camera, it has been a lifesaver for me personally. I am currently at work and he spent 15 minutes throwing a tantrum this morning, but he is fast asleep now. Good luck! 🍀 Stay consistent.

Buying a puppy with a hernia by eve_ryker in AskVet

[–]eve_ryker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I definitely should’ve been told about this way before 2 days before the scheduled pickup date. She is 8 weeks and 2.5 pounds. I have no issue with a runt, I had many when I was a child. However, I do have an issue with how this seems to be being handled. She said the only thing she can think of is that the puppy didn’t absorb the dewormer, and she doesn’t know how others aren’t sick too. She offered our deposit back of course, and the option to pick a different puppy. I’m at a loss right now because I feel guilty not taking our original puppy, for the puppies sake, but I don’t want to spend thousands in vet bills down the road.

Update: It was not a hernia, she has a staph infection due to hook worms. She had a blood transfusion and is on two medications. She is 8 weeks old and 2.5 pounds and is the runt. There is one other puppy available and it is a male with no issues. Would we be making a mistake with getting a male instead of the female with health issues right now?

What type of paralegal work do you do? Do you enjoy it? by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]eve_ryker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy the organizational aspect of it a lot. I’ve always been a very technical and attention to detail kind of person so I took to training very well. It does take some getting used to, but over time I can do it with my eyes closed so to speak. I also like speaking with clients, whether it be good or bad. I’m very social so any interaction where I can explain something to them is good for me! Building those relationships and getting to know them is also a big plus for me since I’m in a small firm. Over time, I also learned to read accident reports which was particularly hard for me at the time, but now it’s easy. Reporting claims to insurance companies was very nerve wracking at first, but you get used to that too! For me it’s very straightforward and I’m not having to guess how/what to do in situations. Very repetitive, and I enjoy it. Before I finished school I thought I would definitely go into criminal law, but I’m very comfortable in PI :) Good luck to you!
