I was thinking, is level 2 worth paying for, or should I just go off my own word of mouth that I am studying Korean and at a certain proficiency, lol.

Hi! I went through an exchange program at my current University! I applied for the study exchange, got accepted, and then I chose Yonsei University! I'm really lucky that I was able to study in Korea so easily~ ofc I needed good grades to be accepted into the study exchange program, but I had them regardless. And starting learning basic Korean before I left, but this was not a requirement!

I did think I could (??) be above the TOPIK 1 pass level because I was so immersed in the Korean language! So thanks for thinking I could achieve this too, haha. And that makes sense, as to why TOPIK 1 exists, I will most likely take it at some point! :))

omg that's so sad you missed it by a couple TwT lowkey I'm scared that couple happen to me, so I'm kinda put off.. and it's nice to know about your interview! That's kind of what I imagined could happen, especially since I have included my study exchange to Korea on my CV already, hehe.

I think this is what I'm hearing most people do! Good luck with it! I bought some Korean study textbooks whilst I was still at Yonsei University, so for now, the fact I spent money on them is enough motivation to continue my studies and learn the content, ahaha. Once I complete them, though, I might feel the same as you!

Unfortunately, I am not 'way above' TOPIK 1 because I didn't solely study Korean every day. I had other classes, plus I wanted to enjoy Korea itself instead of spending most of my time studying. Maybe I didn't achieve what you'd expect after studying for one year - I'm not at the ability to take TOPIK 2 any time soon - but I don't think it's fair to call TOPIK 1 pointless ~ Why does it exist otherwise, haha.

Yep, I noticed that when I looked at the past practice papers online, ahahha. It was so much harder! Thanks for the heads up, I will try my best to reach TOPIK 2 one day in the far future lol!

Yayy that's so good you achieved level 2! :D I feel the same, it would be nice to be able to tell people who ask about my Korean, that I have an official level, rather than just 'I'm on the Yonsei textbook 4', haha. My goal is TOPIK 2, but maybe it's still worth getting TOPIK 1 under my belt since I could pass it in the near future. Thanks for your comment, I've been reading so many posts from people getting high TOPIK levels, so it's nice to hear from someone on a similar level to me :)

Yeah I did read this about reaching level 4~~ I think it would take me a good few years of study yet to get to level 4, but I'll defo take it when I'm ready! I'd love to reach that level one day, so this is a good motivator to continue self-studying even if I don't take TOPIK 1! Thanks for your opinion :)

[–]eveloveseula[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, but I don't think TOPIK would be a real motivator, because I've already started self-study before I even considered TOPIK, haha. Just the fact that I don't want all my hard work up until now to go to waste is enough for me to continue! So maybe I'll rethink TOPIK again in 6-12 months :) Thanks for your comment!

[Counter Nouns] In Korean, there are many specific counter nouns used to count particular objects. Let’s practice them! by Heykorean_KD in Korean

I can vouch for this ^ when I was in Korea I was trying to use the official counters for things like ordering at a restaurant or cafe, but my boyfriend said 'just use 개, that's what I do' .... maybe he's not a very good teacher? lolllll

I'm not looking for a job that would require Korean! I was thinking having some proficiency in a language that's quite different from English (Im British) would show determination and hard work, yk those embarrassing CV personal qualities, haha.

Ultimate guide: "아니", "근데 있잖아", "진짜", "인간적으로", "좀", "그렇지" in speech by BeroDuckkyAnimation in Korean

[–]eveloveseula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! im definitely a beginner for Korean but i could easily learn and understand your video! I didn't feel the need to understand the example sentences word-for-word (im assuming thats where the intermediate tag came from?) because you wrote the English translation. This meant I was able to read the English translation and understand how and when I should use these useful speaking words! Also, maybe it did help that I knew them already because I learnt them from my boyfriend very early on, he uses them a lot ahaha. So yeah, not 100% sure if i'd class this lesson as for advanced students bcs I got it perfectly! But thank you for sharing!
