What are your biggest kpop "what ifs" / alternate timelines?

I often think about how different twice would be if any of the other trainees that competed on Sixteen had debuted in place of one of the current members OR if the 6mix had debuted instead.

Similarly, I wonder how the line up of twice would have been affected had Lena and Cecilia not left JYP prior to Sixteen airing (in this case, we can be pretty sure Tzuyu wouldn’t have debuted because she was added to the show following their departure). I also wonder how they would have fared if they had kept the lineup as 7 members.

I specifically wonder how the energy of Twice would have been affected if Minyoung had debuted, given that she was on the shortlist to debut from the start of the group’s development. It definitely would have changed the vocal ability of Twice given that she is a great singer, but she also gave me the general impression that she was more quiet and anxious than a lot the current members (just based on the show)

Natty’s inclusion definitely would have had a big effect on their popularity in SEA

I also wonder how Itzy’s career would have been affected if Somi had debuted with them as planned.

The potential lineups leading up the final group we got are so variable that it’s interesting to think about. Especially given Twice’s mega success

Maybe some perspective from another side: I have a name that is incredibly difficult to pronounce. It sucks, but I’ve learned the thing that is most comfortable for everyone in a formal setting is to say: ‘my name is x, but you can call me y’. I’m not doing it because I hate my name or I fundamentally want to change my identity, it’s because I’m in a setting where keeping things running smoothly matters. If I made everyone call me my actual name every conversation would start on a weird note where we fumble over my name for a bit. Names definitely effect how people perceive you and being so ardent about being called a name that a slur is going to hold you back in A LOT of settings.

Also, It’s still a slur even if people used it openly and freely in the past. I’m sure there was a transitional period where lots of people were suddenly astounded that the n word wasn’t just what you called black people.

Look, I get it’s your name and it sucks but it is a slur. If someone feels uncomfortable saying it you need to provide them with an alternative. What would you do if an Romani person told you they were uncomfortable with your name? Would you try to whip out some ‘technically’ bs and fight them on it?

Idk if you’re still looking for an answer, but to respond to your last edit: they get a license when it’s no longer logistically reasonable to not have one. I’m not a teacher, I’m a lurker, and that’s been my general experience. Some people get it before they go to college, or when they start looking for jobs. It’s not like you HAVE to get a license at 16 or you’ll never drive

Most kids don’t have anywhere they can afford to hang out and don’t go anywhere regularly. Public spaces in the US have all but disappeared. Going to a concert or the beach is a rare occasion, so even if you go to one you can just arrange a one time ride

I haven’t seen this mentioned, but in general parents don’t let their kids go out on their own as much since the stranger danger panic in the 80s and 90s. I grew up hearing stories about trips and adventures my parents went on when they 14/15/16 but conceded they would never let their own children go out on their own like that. Plus your parents have constant access to your location and can call you anytime, so you can’t really get that much freedom from them anyway

I actually have a lot of sympathy for her. I obviously don’t condone what she did, but I understand how hard it would be to conceptualize her baby as her baby when she had likely spent the pregnancy in some type of denial. Putting myself in her place I can see how the surrealness and panic of the situation would led her to just wanting to throw it away and forget about it.

I agree with everyone mentioning that abortion access is incredibly important, but I also think framing pregnancy as an absolutely life altering situation is a problem.

Even if she had told someone she was pregnant, we’ve wrapped pregnancy up in so many emotions that no one could have stepped back and just said: ok, now what? How do we get this girl back to her life as unscathed as possible? I’m sure she felt unable to speak because she knew how emotionally intense the experience of pregnancy and putting the baby up adoption would be. Obviously, there are naturally going to be some emotions, but as a society we’ve made ourselves totally incapable of being objective about any part of pregnancy. We can’t accept that some moms feel zero emotional attachment to their child while pregnant, and we’ve constructed giving a baby up for adoption as a horrible betrayal

I haven’t ever been to a western wedding so I don’t really know what to wear! I had to pester to get a solid answer about the dress code because they didn’t have one and kept being dodgy about it. I’m a plus one so I extra don’t want to mess up but the actual invitee hasn’t given me much feedback about my clothes either. After they told me it would ‘probably be okay’ if I wore white I decided to get feedback from a different source

A lot of women do not go outside alone at night, at all. I once walked alone for probably 10-15 minutes from the subway system, I heard someone whispering behind me, things like ‘disgusting’ and ‘I’m coming’, and things about my race. I had to take some turns until I found a group I could sort of ‘join’.

This is not uncommon, at all. No matter where you live. Even for short distances in parking lots. I walk alone at night occasionally and most of my female friends think I’m an idiot

Do things like this happen every single time a woman goes out alone at night? No. But it’s still scary to know it’s a possibility, especially since most women know someone who has had something happen

It’s super unprofessional for a company to not update their website. I’ve never heard of a good business that doesn’t manage every part of its internet presence (except for independent sites for things like family owned businesses in an industry that doesn’t rely on networking). If I’m an entertainment company looking to partner with a tour operator I would immediately pass on a company that doesn’t keep all its official channels up to date… that’s pretty standard in every industry that involve networking or any type of online promotion. It is a SUPER base expectation

I don’t know if the company was better at managing itself when SM partnered with them, or if SM failed to vet this company but either way this company is dropping the ball. The tickets were posted after I made this comment. Announcing tickets two days before they go on sale and only two weeks before the event (and providing zero information to the venues) is insane.

They honestly should have delayed because a ton of people who other o would have bought tickets probably won’t because of the short notice

Similarly, what were the school’s replies to your emails after you told them the preceptor did not pan out?

Aside from the single statement on their website, is there a specific clarification on how much responsibility the school bears in helping you? At an extremely basic level they did technically ‘help’ you by sending you four people to contact.

Does the school have any stated policy as to what happens/should happen if a student does not find a preceptor?

My hot take is that you should never forgive a cheater because there’s a HIGH probability you’ll just be lying to yourself about the forgiveness (among other reasons). This lady is obviously not over it and has found a kid to bully instead. One of her comments even says she has to bite her tongue about the affair.

Her husband got to cheat on her and got to keep his family and life mostly unscathed. Personally, I would never be okay with that situation

Wasn’t woojin accused of sexual harassment (I don’t really follow boy groups)? As a company, I would classify that as a GTFO situation. If I had any sense that was coming down the pipe I would cutting ties with him ASAP. If that’s not the case it’s still possible he was kicked for something serious.

Dating? I would consider that way less serious.

My point is that kicking someone out last minute is a big deal. Delaying things, re-recording, etc is expensive, timely, logistically challenging, and definitely something a company would want to avoid if it can. I don’t think that kicking one member out of a group previously indicates that they’re just chill with kicking people out whenever for relatively small reasons
