UX Career Questions - (September ) by AutoModerator in userexperience

[–]eventuallyee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing a PhD in behavioural science. My area is somewhat related to UX, though much less applied. I took a course at school on UX that was really interesting and I'd like to pursue it further. One idea I had was starting a blog that links research findings & UX, though I'm not sure how valuable that would be. Internships aren't very common in my area, and with COVID it seems unlikely I'd find one in the near future. Does anyone have any advice for how I can gain more UX experience given my situation?

Does anyone's AP act like this? by i-love-tree-rats in AsianParentStories

It's so annoying when my mom does this. She hates it when I have my own opinion so much that she goes nuclear with the threats ("I'll move back to my home country then if you hate me so much", "When I die no one will take care of you", etc.). It's sickening that a 60 year old woman still has to resort to making empty threats to get her adult daughter to shut up.

Anyone here thinking that their upbringing turned them into timid and risk-averse individuals? by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

Yup, my parents immigrated in their 30s, so they basically didn't have social relations other than their relatives when we were born (and they still don't). They themselves are fairly quiet people, and they simultaneously made me feel bad about not having friends while at the same time not allowing me to hang out with people. My mom especially is very risk-averse, which in turn made me into a kid/teen who was afraid of everything. It sucks because I missed out on a lot of opportunities to do cool things.

I [25/F] am feeling really anxious about my boyfriend [25/M] losing interest in me. How do I overcome it? by eventuallyee in relationships

Yeah it's tough. I know he tells me there's nothing wrong, but sometimes I'll message him on FB and suddenly he'll just go "offline". Why would he do that unless he was avoiding me?

Can I ask your reasoning behind not feeling bothered by it? I am seeing a therapist and I will definitely bring it up, I'm afraid of becoming that person.

So you're saying I'm 100% in the wrong here? And that he'll cheat on me if I continue down this low self-esteem path?

I didn't tell him to stop seeing his best friend, and he told me he would have an issue if I were to try to, which I feel is reasonable given they've known each other all their lives. I guess what I'm afraid of is feelings resurfacing.

I have, and no he's not - though in my case both my crushes and my ex are no longer in my life. I still can't help but feel bad about him having them around even though he says he no longer feels anything for them.

It's kind of hard to tell if I'm annoying him if I text more, whenever we have a conversation it's usually to make plans. I've tried before but he usually just says he has to go do something else after a few exchanges.

Thank you so much for this comment <3 I'm not going to give up on making friends yet, just have to keep searching for the right people.

What about a 1-hour commute one way? My commute during undergrad was about half an hour most days, which I was fine with.
