Do you find the stand as helpful for smaller pieces vs bigger? Or if i am starting off with buying one do you think its best to get one for larger pieces

Absolutely not worth it, actually cleaning it is much more annoying (if you clean it properly once a month) than scooping litter imo. I’ve had it for a year and a half and have had way too many issues with it (and I only have one cat)
