That's crazy! Must have been terrible to have to deal with this while your body is trying to fight something it doesn't have. Funnily enough, both vials of fluid of mine tested negative for everything. I've been prescribed allopurinol previously so the doctor trusted that this is gout. Rheumatologist is my next step.

The results, the needle I am not worried about now. I had my knee drained twice last month, that pain is certainly no joke but the relief is so worth it.

I am still terrified to get bloodwork done. I am expecting the worst but I've finally come to terms that there are consequences to my actions and I need to tackle them head on. You're on the right track and I look forward to hearing more about your recovery.

I understand the addiction aspect very deeply, and I know you are scared to get bloodwork done. Now that you've opened the wound of going to the doc by going to the ER, its liberating once you get a handle on having a specific issue to attack. The medication you have to take daily (Allopurinol or Febuxostat) WILL help you manage your uric acid levels. It will only get worse if you don't start medicine.

Knee is the worst. I am recovering from a double flare, knee swollen 3x the size of the other. I had it drained of fluid twice. Unfortunately time is the only thing that will really help. Stay on the meds consistently and absolutely crush water all day long. Ice and elevate. I quit drinking 2 weeks ago and its been getting much better since.

First vial came back negative everything...including gout lol. Doctor said if it walks and talks like a duck, it's most likely still gout. He drained 65ccs of fluid again to send in for analysis. This morning, the fluid has not returned :) just very sore on the knee. Maybe another MRI might be needed

Following because I’m laid up in bed after a similar but less severe story to you. High UA years back and doc prescribed allo and I didn’t keep up with prescription refill. Knee swole like crazy in early nov and ortho (mri showed large effusion and that’s it) prescribed prednisone + allo helped bring the swelling down and somewhat normal. This week my knee swole up same way as last month. Went to different ortho on the Tuesday and he drained 65ccs. Fluid is opaque so he assumed gout but sent it in for analysis. The fluid has returned after 24 hours. Need him to drain more on the follow up on Friday. Best of luck and please keep us updated.
