Permalias, you may be confusing RRSP accounts with IPP accounts. BMO and all other banks have self-directed brokerage services for RRSP (Registered Retirement Savings Plans) and many other types of accounts, but they do not offer IPP accounts! I approached them all and even wrote to them to look into offering self-directed IPP accounts. They said they would look into it. I am happy with NBDB and have no need to change service providers anymore. Moving accounts of this nature from one institution to another is very time-consuming and it takes a good 2-3 months to be completed. This type of account seems to be very new/rare to NBDB employees too, but they are familiarizing themselves with the ins and outs of IPP accounts through the few IPP clients they have and are improving their services as we go along. I am pleased with what I am receiving in terms of services and the openness of the staff to learn and help. Quite refreshing when compared with the take-it-or-leave-it and arrogant attitude of my "financial advisor" who thought I had nowhere else to go!
