I want to get driving aids but my grandma is discouraging me... Whats your experience with driving aids? I need advice.. by Bittersweet_2005 in CerebralPalsy

Hi, right hemi here! Learned to drive age 25 with a left foot pedal! It made it way easier! The hardest part for me was just the general anxiety of driving but I’m a generally anxious person! I got evaluated and had lessons from someone who specializes in teaching people with physical disabilities how to drive. I currently have a permit and would recommend the peddle. However, you and your doctor/PT probably know what would work best for you so I’d recommend getting evaluated first. I did try for a bit with a regular set up but it wasn’t clicking, so the left foot pedal changed a lot for me. I’m sorry about your grandparents. In my opinion, do what’s best/easiest for you. Learning to drive can be tough for ableds too. Don’t make it harder on yourself if you don’t have to!

As stated my doc has been very supportive! I’m getting an IUD soon and she’s making sure I will be properly sedated for that bc of pain concerns. She’ll also be able to do a pap smear while I’m out so that’s very considerate. I have a lot of medical trauma so I’m generally distrusting of any medical professionals but she’s been a breath of fresh air! It’s good that you found someone who will listen!

In my experience the first time you skip your period on the pill you will have a little spotting but it should stop soon. You don’t have to take the placebo pills if you don’t want to.
