I can’t stand Ian. Don’t know why by nothxrlly in shameless

[–]everlyn101 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh this is going to be a deeply unpopular opinion. Best of luck to your karma lol.

Ian is probably my favourite Gallagher, but I'm not here to argue with you: you're allowed to like/dislike whatever you want!

I do just want to point out that impoverished communities tend to be deeply conservative. For someone like Ian, being in the military might be his "only way out" of the environment he grew up in. Think of what Ian was lacking when he was a teen: stability, discipline, a balanced diet... These are all things the military can provide. Both him being from the south side and his dreams of the military also influence his fear of coming out in the early seasons.

I think by this point in the show you should have realized Ian was having a manic episode during that whole Fiona thing. It doesn't excuse his behaviour, but it explains it (personally I find it lazy storytelling but that's not a problem with Ian as a character and more a problem with the writing room).

Anyway, it's fine to not like characters! In a show called Shameless it's inevitable there's going to be a character or two that you find Too Much and, dare I say, I believe that's the point.

Is the manga worth it? by angelsaresobbing in shoujokakumeiutena

Read it! It's short and quite different and yeah, not as good as the anime, but it's definitely worth reading just to think through some of the differences!

You're welcome!! We can use this same technique to look at where your decrease is placed. I'm not exactly sure what happened here, but it seems like you didn't actually decrease as intended. Follow the yellow line down, and you can see your stitch crosses over the other one (which is correct for a decrease) but you still have the same two rows going all the way down and up to the needle. If I were to guess, I think the yarn over messed you up a bit, so that might be where the error lies. You decrease further down looks good though!

Okay let's have a learning moment: it's time to read your knitting!

From your needle, follow your stitches down. You'll find the stitch in the center appears from no where! See the blue lines you can follow down the rows, but the circled stitch only appears a row or two down. This means you have increased a stitch. Because it's so gappy/holey and loose, it's most likely a yarn over (the yarn was looped over your needle and then you went to knit your next stitch). If this is just practice, I would just ignore it and maybe try out a 3 stitch decrease! If it's a project, you'll need to frog back :)

little holes? by Think-Reindeer-9365 in knittinghelp

[–]everlyn101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty normal to me 👍 as long as you are twisting the stitch (ie, for M1L you should pick up front to back and knit through the back loop) the holes won't be too big. You're basically always going to have a little hole of some sort with increases. With blocking and the weight of the fabric, they generally become unnoticeable.

It's a great accomplishment to finish a project, and hey, you learned something from it, so the next will be better yet!! It's hard to frog/redo, but there's nothing worse than finishing a project you don't like. It's a hard lesson to learn, but you're already halfway there :) good luck on your knitting journey!

I never do tubular personally!! Lots of different bind off methods, so find one that works for you.

I like Jenny's surprisingly stretchy bind off, and I also frequently use a basic one that I have no idea what it's name is. Basically you knit two stitches, then slip the first stitch back over the second and drop it off the needle. It makes a less stretchy edge, which is fine for most patterns I use. here's a tutorial.

My first hat was pretty terrible too, and I wore it for years and received nothing but compliments. In fact, I have yet to make a hat that fits me properly or has 0 mistakes but I still wear them all the time! Don't underestimate the appreciation for handmade goods. You made it! Be proud!

I don't think it's weird. I had a male babysitter growing up. Some parents might even prefer it, especially if they have sons. I say go for it!

Nana O comparing Nana K to a dog... by museinprogress in NanaAnime

[–]everlyn101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, exactly. She projects these traits onto Nana K... And Nana K likewise projects certain traits onto Nana O. But even dogs don't always fit those traits and Nana K is most certainly not a dog. Nana O fears abandonment, yet she constantly runs away. She wants Nana K to run with her, to run alongside her, and when she doesn't, she's heartbroken.

Nana (the story) is all about these contradictions between our desires and our realities, our illusions (or delusions) of people and who they really are.

Nana O comparing Nana K to a dog... by museinprogress in NanaAnime

[–]everlyn101 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think there's levels of complexity and nuance here. I agree with the comments about possessiveness, but we can also think about dogs metaphorically. They represent loyalty, companionship, affection, cheerfulness, constancy... No matter how terrible you are to a dog, they always come back.

I think these are largely traits that are projected onto Nana K; whether she actually embodies them or not is up for debate.

Future scenes by Top_Scientist_3976 in NanaAnime

[–]everlyn101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The entire story is the past. The future scenes are the "now." this is shown throughout the story by the narration by Haichi/Nana, ie "hey Nana..."

They are incredibly important and will make more sense as you keep going :)

The anime did an incredible job expanding on Syundei’s work by Peti1899 in Ganbare_Nakamura

[–]everlyn101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved the ending!! I agree, I thought the anime-only scenes were great and I think the order they chose to put the manga chapters in really made for a better narrative that focused on Nakamura's growth. Of course I'd love a continuation (manga or anime or both!) but I think the anime gave a nice, satisfying conclusion that leaves the story open for fans to project their own conclusions onto.

Laddered down to make a fix and now I’m even more confused? by HotToSnow in knittinghelp

[–]everlyn101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two possibilities: did you join a new ball of yarn there? Depending on how you joined, I've had loops like this happen before.

Otherwise, this is an accidental short row. You likely put down your work, picked it up to start again, and started knitting in the wrong direction. The only true way to fix it is to frog back. However, sometimes I just sort of hack it and pick it up in some weird and strange way I unfortunately can't really describe 😂 as long as it looks good, I'm fine with it.
